The 2nd Volunteer Day FOR AND FOR ELDERLY will be held on Wednesday, June 20 in Molina de Segura (19/06/2018)

The City of Molina de Segura, through the Senior Unit of the Department of Social Welfare, and in collaboration with the Majority Association, Red Cross and AXIAL, has organized the II Day of Volunteering FOR AND FOR OLDER, which is celebrated on Wednesday, June 20, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at the Virginia Martínez Fernández Auditorium, at the MUDEM, in order to ensure that the group of elders puts their life project in the foreground, connecting with their environment through the voluntary work of social support for elders who live alone and need accompaniment and / or attention in resource management, and for social insertion projects.

In connection with the group of elderly people, the demands that are collected in the Department of Social Welfare are not only welfare, characterized by situations of dependence, for the activities of daily life.

The living conditions have made the aging of today a broad stage to which people arrive in good health conditions and with a desire to participate in society in different scenarios and activities.

According to the Councilor for Social Welfare, Ángel Navarro García, "voluntary action is an important part of all civilizations and societies, and in these civilizations the elderly have played a decisive role in its formation." We are convinced that volunteering was, is and it will be a beautiful contribution of the human being to society in the form of altruism and solidarity, manifest or private, of young and old, without distinction of creeds.Different studies have concluded that people who participate in voluntary organizations and community activities have less probability of dying that people socially isolated ".

"Being connected with institutions, Social Services, etc., participating in volunteer activities, to the extent of their own possibilities, is a guarantee of mental health," Navarro said. "It is a way of feeling alive, and of verifying that for others we have a value and a meaning, as well as a way of approaching reality and relativizing our difficulties in contact with others. Also, the group of seniors has extensive knowledge and experiences that can make your participation as useful as volunteers".

Favoring the protagonism of the elderly in social activities and fostering intergenerational interrelationship, it is possible to improve their self-image and promote active and healthy aging, all aimed at achieving a better quality of life and full development.

For its part, the Mayor of Molina de Segura, Esther Clavero Mira, is confident that "this day will imply the effort that is being made from Social Welfare in the direction that the elderly feel useful and integrated into the , preventing risks of social marginalization and physiological deterioration The volunteer day is a space for the promotion of participation, meeting and integration, among other things ".

The Senior Unit of the Department of Social Welfare, coordinated by a social worker, has among its functions to be a tool to support the different associations of older people in the municipality, in the management of resources, both administrative, organizational and Communication.
