The Mayor of Molina de Segura, Esther Clavero Mira, received on Monday, August 20, in the Plenary Hall of the City Council, a representation of the Sahrawi children participating in the solidarity project of temporary shelter Holidays in peace, a program that promotes the "Saharaui Smile" Association with the collaboration of the Saharawi Delegation in the Region of Murcia.
The municipal councilor has been accompanied in the act by the Delegate of the Saharawi People in the Region of Murcia, Fatma Brahim Salem, the President of the Saharawi Smile Association, Juan José López García, the Councilor for Development Cooperation and Solidarity, Pedro Jesús Martínez Bathrooms and other members of the local corporation.
Holidays in Peace, as pointed out by the Mayor of Molinense, "is a bond of friendship and friendship between two peoples united by historical and emotional ties, which goes beyond the concept of international solidarity."
Clavero added that "year after year, Saharawi children and families of our country make the summer months become one of the most obvious examples of coexistence between cultures."
This summer, 77 boys and girls between 8 and 12 years old, coming from the Saharawi refugee camps that exist in the south of Algeria, enjoy during the months of July and August a "Vacation in Peace" within the homes of the different host families of Murcia.
In Molina de Segura there are four minors who are welcomed by local families.
These children, who will remain in Murcia until September 2, have been born in the refugee camps and therefore this summer is for them the first time they know a reality different from the daily life of the hot Algerian desert, where their The town has been in exile since 1975.
The stay of minors in the Region of Murcia is designed to get them out of the desert climate, but they are also given the chance to see many things that until now they only knew in books or through television (rivers, mountains, sea...).
These are awake and restless children, accustomed to playing on the street.
They are part of structured families, with very strong affective ties and a stable social environment, however, they are refugees, they know nothing but being refugees.
The Vacations in Peace project offers participating minors a global medical review, including vaccination, dental, ocular and auditory reviews.
Also during their stay they are fed in a balanced way that prepares them to face the winter with more health.
The Town Council of Molina de Segura maintains close ties of collaboration with the Association "Saharaui Smile", which are materialized through a collaboration agreement.
This year 2018 that agreement will be endowed with 14,100 euros.
The municipal contribution helps to finance the trip of the children who receive local families, as well as the trip of the children who produce from the Dagla camp, with which the municipality is twinned.
In addition, a cooperation project is also financed to renew the existing computer systems in this camp.
