Molina de Segura presents a project to participate as a pilot municipality in the European initiative Horizon 2020, to develop an intelligent system of industrial water management (30/11/2018)

The councils of European Projects and Environment of the Molinense City Council and the service company SERCOMOSA collaborate to promote the participation of the municipality in the Industrial Intelligent Water Management System project (H2020) - I2WAM, a project of the European Horizon 2020 program to develop a system of Intelligent industrial water management in which the municipality would be the place to deploy the Priority Decision Support System of the EIP Water Strategic Implementation Plan.

The Mayor of Molina de Segura, Esther Clavero Mira, has promoted the support to this project so that it can be presented to the call H2020-EIC-FTI-2018-2020 and Molina de Segura can benefit from the development of these technologies to help the taking of decisions.

The integrated system will be deployed in Molina de Segura, where the water supply system will be validated and certified.

The consortium of the H2020 project consists of 5 members, Software for Critical Systems, which leads it, as well as the University of Malaga, two partners from Italy, Sinergeo and Inov and one from Portugal, Simbiente.

With the project, the municipality would have an intelligent tool focused on the analysis of data in the field of water, in which the meters will provide key data that pass to a centralized decision-making system capable of understanding, interpreting and acting from the information collected.

This system can use the data to, for example, find leaks quickly, identify infrastructure priorities, advise customers and reduce water consumption, providing them with incentives to adjust their water consumption patterns, based on the exact cost of water. use of water at that time.

It is, according to the Councilor for European Projects, Concepción Orenes Hernández, "to have an intelligent decision support system that has the tools to act at an early stage, in a preventive way, saving time, money and resources, and not exclusively reactive, repairing damages already produced. "

From the SERCOMOSA Technical Services it is indicated that "I2WAM provides relevant information regarding the management of the internal supply, avoiding greater difficulties: it saves water by minimizing leaks in the distribution system, optimizing and reducing energy consumption, evaluating the quality of water, apply precautionary measures to avoid contaminated water from entering the network, reduce operation and maintenance costs, evaluate the causes of a decrease in the efficiency of supply (helping to know if it is due to natural or unexpected trends of an aquifer, by the deterioration of the pumping system or structure), and allow preventive measures to be taken to ensure the availability of water to users (for example, drilling a new well, investigating a new source of water, exploiting available sources in a differentiated way) "

In addition to the improvement in the efficiency of water management and its quality, for the Councilor for the Environment, Juan Alcalde Quirós, "the project will have other socioeconomic impacts, such as a better knowledge of the hydraulic response to adverse meteorological phenomena, will allow a better management of the same, and will help other organizations, such as the case of the Irrigation Community of Los Dones, El Fenazar, using I2WAM, to minimize the risk of contamination in a pumping well for the supply of groundwater located near a point where there may be a source of pollution, or could be used to address the sustainable use of water resources by guaranteeing high quality water for drinking and of moderate quality for industry or irrigation. "

Horizon 2020 (H2020) is the European program that finances and concentrates research and innovation projects and activities in its three pillars: a) science of excellence, b) industrial leadership, through the development of technologies and their applications to improve European competitiveness and c ) social challenges, investigating the big issues that affect European citizens.

H2020 integrates all phases, from the generation of knowledge to the activities closest to the market, such as basic research, technology development, demonstration projects, manufacturing pilot lines, social innovation, technology transfer, etc.
