The XV Setenil Award 2018 for the Best Story Book Published in Spain will be delivered on Tuesday, December 11 at the Molina de Segura City Council (10/12/2018)

The prize, worth 10,000 euros, went to Mundo extraño, by José Ovejero, published by Páginas de Espuma

The award ceremony of the XV Setenil Award 2018 for the Best Story Book published in Spain, promoted by the Department of Culture of the Molina de Segura City Council, will take place on Tuesday, December 11, at 8:00 p.m., in the Plenary Hall of the City Council, with the assistance of the Mayor of the town, Esther Clavero Mira, the winner of the XV Setenil Award, José Ovejero, the Councilor for Culture, Pedro Jesús Martínez Baños, and the President of the Jury, Luisgé Martín.

The jury of the XV Setenil Prize, composed by Luisgé Martín, Lola López Mondéjar, Basilio Pujante Cascales and Manuel Moyano, agreed to award the award to José Ovejero for his book Mundo extraño, published by Páginas de Espuma, in the second most attended edition of his history, with 108 titles presented.

Promoted by the Department of Culture of the City of Molina de Segura, and known as "the Oscar of the story", the endowment of the Setenil Prize is 10,000 euros.

Prior to the award ceremony, attention will be paid to the media at 12.30 at the Salvador García Aguilar Library (at Avenida del Chorrico, n ° 44).

At 12.45, in the auditorium of the Salvador García Aguilar Library, winner's meeting with students of the IES Francisco de Goya and Vega del Táder.

In the afternoon, at 19:30, at Paseo Rosales, we will proceed to the discovery of a plaque commemorating the winner of the Setenil Prize, which will be attended by the Mayor, the winning writer, the Culture Councilor and the President of the Jury.

The plaque will be placed on a bench in the promenade area and contains a commemorative text of the award and an extract of the winning work, as well as a drawing made by the artist from Molinense Juan Espallardo.

José Ovejero (Madrid, 1958) has a degree in Geography and History and has lived most of the time outside of Spain.

He is a frequent contributor to the press and lecturer in the United States and other countries, having directed writing workshops at universities such as Berkeley and Carlton College.

He has played all literary genres, obtaining important awards such as Primavera de Novela for The Lives of Others, the Anagram of Essay for the Ethics of Cruelty, the Alfaguara Novel for The Invention of Love, or the Great Travelers for China for hypochondriacs.

The book that has obtained the XV Setenil Prize, Strange World, contains 14 stories and 5 short pieces that oscillate between love and pain, between laughter and aggression.

According to the author himself, in this book the two main tendencies of his writing come together: "a realistic line and another in which the absurd and the outrageous win the game".

The winners of the previous editions of the Setenil were Alberto Méndez, Juan Pedro Aparicio, Cristina Fernández Cubas, Sergi Pàmies, Óscar Esquivias, Fernando Clemot, Francisco López Serrano, David Roas, Clara Obligado, Ignacio Ferrando, Javier Sáez de Ibarra, Emilio Gavilanes , Diego Sánchez Aguilar and Pedro Ugarte.
