Environmental Volunteers from Molina de Segura have collaborated in the identification of traces and traces of terrestrial mammals in the Vicente Blanes Ecological Park (29/01/2019)

The Environmental Volunteering Program Volunteers Naturally !, of the Department of the Environment of the City of Molina de Segura, held on Saturday January 26, a monitoring activity, tracking and identification of small mammals in the Ecological Park Vicente Blanes , with the participation of a dozen volunteers.

During the activity, the volunteers were able to meet the main mammals that live in the Vicente Blanes Ecological Park, learning to identify their tracks, traces and lairs that would help them identify them in the proposed itinerary.

Numerous evidences of the presence of rabbits and squirrels and to a lesser extent of fox and wild boar were identified.

This activity aims to update the data that was obtained in the last study conducted in the park, dated in 2008.

With this activity, the Department of Environment, has commemorated the World Day of Environmental Education, which has its origin in 1975, year in which the International Seminar on Environmental Education was organized in Belgrade and had the participation of experts from more than 70 countries.

In this event, the principles of environmental education were established within the framework of United Nations programs.

And as a result the Belgrade Charter was published, in which the fundamental demands of environmental education are expressed, whose goals are: to form a world population that is conscious and concerned with the environment and associated problems, and that has knowledge, aptitude attitude, motivation and commitment to work individually and collectively in the search for solutions to existing problems and to prevent new ones.

The Councilor for the Environment, Juan Alcaide Quirós, highlighted "the importance of this type of activity, which helps to raise awareness and know the biodiversity of natural areas, in this case in the Vicente Blanes Ecological Park, and which provide relevant information to the technical personnel in charge of its management ".

Alcaide thanked the participants for their collaboration in this activity, "with which they had the opportunity to collaborate in the knowledge of the fauna of a natural area of ​​special relevance such as the municipal protection park Vicente Blanes, collaborating with its performance in the conservation of its biodiversity and participating in its protection ".

The activities of this program are held on the last Saturday of each month and are aimed at all those over 14 years old interested in the conservation of natural areas and the improvement of the municipality.
