The Molina de Segura City Council participates in the technical conference and workshops convened by the Directorate General of Regional and Urban Policy of the European Union and the Ministry of Finance, dedicated to working in depth the indicators, and results that the European Commission will demand to the cities selected to finance with European FEDER funds;

in particular, sustainable urban development actions.

According to the Coordinator of European Projects of the Molinense City Council, Antonio Gomariz Pastor, "the Molina 2020 Avanza Contigo strategy is pending the verification of the Procedures Manual that contemplates, how all the investments and actions, the controls and the way to verify if the funds are strictly destined to the demands of European standards ".

The complexity of managing actions financed with European funds is given by two reasons: the need to define and measure very well the objectives that are intended to be achieved and how they affect the lives of people in cities;

and, secondly, the need for maximum transparency and control of European funds and for citizens to know what and how they will be invested in their city.

At this time, the Evaluation of the risk of fraud and in the absence of approval of the Procedures Manual by the General Directorate of Local Cooperation, work on the financial path, to know the annual expenditure that will involve the investments;

in establishing the indicators to measure if beneficial results for the citizenship are achieved;

and how the programmed financed actions will be monitored.

The complex and sometimes cumbersome process of setting up the ERDF for sustainable urban development derives from the obligations set by the European Commission to effectively manage European funds.

Any non-compliance or management that does not comply with the strict criteria established may lead to penalties and partial or total withdrawal of ERDF assistance.

The workshops will deal with other European programs and grants to finance actions in cities, such as Urbact III and Innovative Urban Actions.
