The Molina de Segura City Council signs an agreement with the Association for Active and Healthy Aging to develop a program of activities aimed at older people (24/04/2019)

The act of signing the agreement between the Molina de Segura City Council and the Association for Active and Healthy Aging of Molina de Segura took place today, Wednesday, April 24, in the municipality of Molinense.

The Mayor of the town, Esther Clavero Mira, the President of the Association for Active and Healthy Aging, Juan Aguilar Gil, and the Councilor for Social Welfare, Ángel Navarro García, attended.

The purpose of this agreement is to collaborate economically, through the granting of a municipal subsidy amounting to 27,000 euros, with the Association for Active and Healthy Aging of Molina de Segura, which develops a program of activities for the elderly group, with the purpose of promoting socio-cultural and recreational activities to prevent situations of physical and / or cognitive deterioration, as well as to create spaces and new forms for the occupation of leisure time and leisure.

The services and activities are scheduled according to the needs of the people who attend each social center, among which is highlighted:

Gerontogimnasia activities.

Therapeutic massage.

Podiatry through Mobile Unit (diabetic foot treatment, corns, ingrown toenails, rheumatic chiropody, etc.).

Sociocultural activities of leisure and free time and sports, hiking, visits, fellowship meals, excursions, contests, radio programs, dominoes and cards, contests, petanque, etc.

The activities are aimed at the population over 65 years of age in the municipality and are carried out in the centers and / or clubs of older persons already constituted, in Molina de Segura and districts.

Currently there are 18 senior centers.

In the last year, 3 of them have been set up, Altorreal, Los Valientes and Santa Bárbara.

In June 2016 the Association for Active and Healthy Aging of Molina de Segura was established, in order to achieve greater participation and autonomy of the elderly in community life, making longevity compatible with the development of actions that improve the quality of life of the elderly in the municipality of Molina de Segura.

The weight of the population over 65 has steadily increased from 2008 to 2018, going from 9.8% to 12.3% in the municipality, with the percentage of the male population (11.2%) being lower than that of the women (13.3%).

The people who participate in the different activities through the association obtain an economic benefit in the cost of podiatry treatments, therapeutic massage and physiotherapy.

The subsidized activities are aimed at preventing cognitive and physical deterioration and new spaces and forms of leisure and free time are generated.

The commitment of the association to take into account the Social and Labor Insertion Exchange of the Molina City Council, aimed at favoring the integration in the labor market of people in situation of unemployment in the municipality, is maintained.

The Department of Social Welfare collaborates with the entity with the support of a Social Worker and an administrative assistant of the Senior Unit to support the demand and socio-community needs of the group.
