The act of presentation of the new urban garden of Molina de Segura, promoted by the Department of Environment of the Molinense City Council, in collaboration with members of the Association of Volunteers For and For Older, has taken place today, June 6.
They have assisted the acting Mayor of Molina de Segura, Esther Clavero Mira, the Councilman in functions of Social Welfare, Angel Navarro García, the Councilman in functions of Environment, Juan Alcaide Quirós, the Councilman in functions of Agriculture, Antonio López Vidal, and the President of the Major Center of IMAS, Agustín Isaac López Bermúdez.
The new urban garden is located in the garden areas next to the old train station of Molina de Segura, following the Greenway as it passes through the Avenida de la Industria.
In the summer of 2018, through the Participatory Budgets, and with the technical help of the Department of the Environment, began the landscaping works of this green artery.
The main objective of these was the creation of shade in the passage of this cicliturística route.
As a result of these works, the area has become a zone of passage for citizens in their daily walks, and a meeting point for the group of older people, especially petanque enthusiasts, since during the past year the number of tracks of this sport modality.
This group of seniors made the request to the Department of the Environment for an integrated urban garden in the garden area, which would serve them for their healthy active aging activities.
The technical services of the Department of the Environment have designed and executed an urban garden with an extension of a quarter of tahulla (280 m² approx.) Of cultivable area, plus many others between staging areas and storage.
The installation of the Department of Environment has been framed in the volunteer project Por and for Seniors, which is carried out by the Department of Social Welfare along with the Association for Active and Healthy Aging Molina de Segura.
With this project it is intended that the city regain its huertano spirit planting local varieties of vegetables, in an ecological way, and recovering a disused space in the urban area.
This area, with a lot of people passing by, will serve as an example for the citizens, spreading the values ​​of traditional and ecological agriculture, especially before the visiting schools, as well as for the realization of intergenerational experiences that take advantage of the knowledge of our elders and encourage their contact with youth, without forgetting the importance of promoting active and healthy aging.
It is a look at some traditional, ecological, familiar and active past values.
