The Department of Social Welfare of the City of Molina de Segura, through the Municipal Plan for the Prevention of Drug Addiction, and in collaboration with Proyecto Hombre, organizes the informative day on Youth and gambling with betting: current situation and prevention initiatives on Thursday 20 June, from 09.30 to 14.00, at the Virginia Martínez Fernández Auditorium, at the MUDEM.

This day is part of the various actions that the Department of Social Welfare launches and that are aimed at different groups of society affected by the consumption of toxic substances, as well as other activities in the field of awareness, training and prevention of drug addiction .

During the academic year 2018/2019 a series of activities has been carried out aimed at different areas: family and educational, such as workshops for informative sessions for parents, competition for ESO students, among others.

According to the Councilor for Social Welfare, Angel Navarro Garcia, "in recent years we are witnessing in our society an increase in the prevalence of adolescents and young people who have problems of addiction to gambling." All this is creating an alarm, both families, teachers and, in general, professionals who work with these groups, since it is being seen as normal how the youngest have assumed the practice of betting as a leisure activity, and is assumed as a form of entertainment , which poses a risk to health and internalizes the idea of ​​making easy money through this practice, which is just another addiction ".

This reality is not accidental, since many factors influence, among which stand out the easy accessibility, the ignorance of regulations, regulation of advertising, or the prevailing values ​​of consumer leisure, added to other social, family and even personal aspects that They interact with each other to give rise to a complex and worrisome situation.

The purpose of this day is to offer an updated view of the problem, to open a debate around it and to inform professionals and stakeholders about initiatives and resources available in the region for the prevention and treatment of addiction to gambling.
