The bookEl Cuarteto Aguilar y familia, by the Molinense author Antonio López Meseguer, recently published by the Department of Culture of the Molina de Segura City Council, was presented on Thursday June 20 in Santander, at the III Congress on Republican Exile Destinations, organized by the National Distance University (UNED).
The presentation of the book was part of the conference Los González-Aguilar, science and music in exile in Argentina, by Martín Alonso Zarza and Alba Comino Comino.
The event was attended by the author, Antonio López Meseguer.
In the words of Professor of History of the UNED, Abdón Mateos, "the exile of the Spanish republicans after the civil war will always be topical because it is a benchmark of the Spanish democratic culture."
The Aguilar Quartet came to have great global relevance.
The composers of the time, Joaquín Turina, Manuel de Falla, Nin, Ernesto Halffter, Villa-Lobos, María Rodrigo and Igor Stravinsky adapted their works or even composed them exclusively for them.
In his travels around the world they came to deal with important twentieth-century characters, such as Federico García Lorca, Rafael Alberti, Ida Vitale or Che Guevara.
They acted in front of Adolf Hitler, in 1931, and before two American presidents: Herbert Hoover and Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
The author, Antonio López Meseguer, was born in 1961 in La Ribera de Molina.
Employee of the City of Molina de Segura, among other actions of his position include the restoration of the Hermitage of San Roque and the churches of El Fenazar, El Rellano and La Ribera.
In the field of music, he belonged to the Cantores de la Vega formation, he was a founding partner of the Harmonic Artistic Choir and the Tuna Currantil and, for five years, he has been animating the musical evenings of La Ribera.
