Molina de Segura is ahead of emergencies due to air pollution and plans the implantation of an approved measurement station in the municipality (19/07/2019)

The City of Molina de Segura, through the Department of Environment, is ahead of emergencies due to air pollution in the municipality and plans the implementation of an approved measurement station, as explained by the Councilor for Environment, Mariano Vicente Albaladejo , who added that, "in addition to emissions of pollutants (traffic, tropospheric ozone, etc.), high temperatures increase the risks to their health, and this is becoming a structural situation that requires an adequate response , so it is necessary to have a measuring station in our municipality that provides us with reliable data on air pollution. "

Last Tuesday, July 16, the councilor, along with a technician from the Department of the Environment, held a meeting at the General Directorate of the Environment of the Region of Murcia with those responsible for it, in order to implement it in Molina de Segura an approved measuring station, which would be integrated into the regional network and that would help to detect this type of events in the municipality with greater detail and precision, "since it is mandatory to establish action protocols in these episodes, and responsibility for the Municipal authorities put them in motion and we are currently working with data extrapolated from Murcia city, specifically from the station located in San Basilio. "

The Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia will carry out the location studies for a year, so when these are available, it will be known where said measuring station will be located.

On the part of the Molinense City Council, the acquisition of measuring equipment for atmospheric pollution is being studied, especially for NO2 and PM10, which are the pollutants regulated by the regional framework protocol, and on which the municipalities must act, and which will be integrated into the regional network.

Its maintenance will be supported by the General Directorate for the Environment.

For the acquisition of these elements "it is very likely that, within the EDUSI European project, in what affects Smart City, this need can be addressed." For this, technicians from the Councils of the Environment and European Projects work together to make the first components of this station are included in it, "said Mariano Vicente.

In a second phase, the session will work on the development of municipal protocols for action to deal with emergency situations due to air pollution.
