The act of reception for Saharawi children who participate in the solidarity project for temporary foster care Holidays in Peace 2019, a program promoted by the Saharaui Smile Association in collaboration with the Saharawi Delegation in the Region of Murcia, took place today Friday 26 of July, in the Plenary Hall of the City of Molina de Segura.
The Mayor of Molina de Segura, Esther Clavero Mira, the Delegate of the Saharaui People in the Region of Murcia, Fatma Mohamed, the President of the Saharaui Smile Association, Juani Abenza Abenza, the Councilor for Development and Solidarity Cooperation, Mariano Vicente Albaladejo, and other members of the Municipal Corporation.
Holidays in Peace, as pointed out by the Molinense Mayor, "is a link of friendship and friendship between two peoples united by historical and emotional ties, which goes beyond the concept of international solidarity."
Clavero added that "year after year, Saharawi children and families in our country make the summer months become one of the most obvious examples of coexistence between cultures."
This summer, 55 boys and girls between 8 and 12 years old, coming from the Saharawi refugee camps that exist in southern Algeria, enjoy during the months of July and August a Peace Holiday in the homes of the different families from Murcia.
In Molina de Segura there are three minors welcomed by local families.
These children, who will remain in Murcia until September 4, have been born in the refugee camps and therefore this summer is for them and them the first time they know a different reality from the daily life of the hot Algerian desert, where His people have been in exile since 1975.
The stay of children in the Region of Murcia is intended to get them out of the desert climate, but they are also given the possibility to see many things that until now they only knew in books or through television (rivers, mountains, the sea...).
These are awake and restless children, accustomed to playing in the street.
They are part of structured families, with very strong emotional ties and a stable social environment, however, they are refugees, they don't know anything other than being refugees.
The Vacations in Peace project offers participating children a global medical review, including vaccination, dental, eye and hearing.
Also during their stay they are fed in a balanced way that prepares them to face the winter with more health.
The City of Molina de Segura maintains close ties of collaboration with the Sarisaui Smile Association, which are materialized through a collaboration agreement.
The municipal contribution helps to finance the trip of the children who host local families, as well as the trip of the children who produce from the Dagla camp, with which the municipality is twinned.
In addition, a cooperation project is also funded to renovate the existing computer systems in this camp.
