The preacher of the Patron Festivities of Molina de Segura 2019 will be Pedro Gomariz Rodríguez, Perico el Colorao, farmer and cooperative, as announced today Friday July 26, the Mayor of the town, Esther Clavero Mira.
The opening announcement of the festivities will take place on Friday, September 6, at 7:30 p.m., at the Villa de Molina Theater.
Pedro Gomariz Rodríguez was born in Molina de Segura on September 25, 1942. He studied at the Agricultural Training School where he obtained the title of agricultural foreman.
Since he was young he had participated in the neighborhood movement of Campotéjar, contributing to the installation of drinking water and electricity in the village.
In 1976 he created the Union of Farmers and Cattle Ranchers of the Region of Murcia (today COAG-IR), being its first regional president.
In 1977 he joined the Irrigation Inheritance of Molina de Segura, and was elected member of the Local Agricultural Chamber of Molina, a position he held for 20 years.
In 1980 he reorganized the third zone of the Tajo-Segura Transfer and formed the Irrigation Community of Campotéjar, being its president for 14 years.
From 1982 to 1996 he was a member of the Assembly in the Segura Hydrographic Confederation.
Also in 1982 he contributed to the creation of the Central Irrigation Union of the Tajo-Segura Transfer, of which he was the founding secretary, forming part of the Governing Board for 25 years.
In 1983 he was elected councilor of the City of Molina de Segura, being delegate of Agriculture for four years.
He has been a member of the Water Council of the Segura Basin.
In 2006 he received the award for the best farmer for defending agriculture in the Region.
He is a member of several agricultural cooperatives and has been a member, since its foundation, of the Molina Economic and Social Council.
In 2008, the City of Molina de Segura, unanimously of the Plenary, granted the Diploma of Distinguished Services to the Municipality for its dedication to the agricultural associative movement, its work in favor of agriculture and the farmer, and its defense and claim of the Tajo Transfer -Safe as a source of wealth and progress of our Community.
And, in 2013, the Federation of Agricultural Cooperatives of the Region of Murcia (FECOAM) granted him the Gold Badge of that institution.
Popularly known as Perico el Colorao, Pedro Gomariz treasures a long career as a country man, as an advocate of agriculture and has maintained a very direct commitment and involvement in all issues that affect agriculture in our municipality and in our Region.
