Demedicalization program Yonomebenzo Molina de Segura has been presented at a press conference, today, Monday, December 16, in the Plenary Hall of the Molinense Town Hall.

The Councilor for Sports and Health, Miguel Ángel Cantero García, the Deputy Director General of Pharmacy and Research of the Region of Murcia, Casimiro Jiménez Guillén, the representative of the Official College of Pharmacists of the Region of Murcia, Reyes Menárguez Carreño, the coordinator of the Health Center Professor Jesús Marín López and Coordinator of the Demedicalization Group Yonomebenzo de Molina de Segura, Dr. Juan Francisco Menárguez Puche, and the pharmaceutical companies Belén Aguilar Musso, of the Ministry of Health of the CARM, and Sandra Sierra Alarcón, of Official College of Pharmacists of the Region of Murcia.

Doctors and pharmacists develop this novel awareness and deprescription strategy.

The profile of addicts to these substances is: young women, with a high level of education and unemployed.

The Municipal Health Council of Molina de Segura created a multidisciplinary working group formed by professionals from different health and municipal institutions (family doctors, pharmacists, psychiatrists, psychologists, municipal technicians and members of associations and citizens) to design and start a program global and community, prioritizing interventions on elderly patients and women.

The purpose of this community program is to promote the rational use of benzodiazepines in people who use them for the problems of everyday life, by empowering patients and optimizing prescription and dispensing.

The YONOMEBENZO program was structured in two phases, a first phase of information / social awareness and a second phase of intervention on health professionals and the population of Molina de Segura.

In the first phase, already completed, different actions have been carried out: activities in the media (press and radio), conferences with citizen associations, creation of the blog the (bad) use and abuse of benzodiazepines: yonomebenzo, sessions in associations of women, in addition to training the health professionals of the health centers of this municipality.

In the second phase, under development, various interventions are being launched with the collaboration of the City of Molina de Segura, the Ministry of Health of the Region of Murcia and the Official College of Pharmacists of the Region of Murcia:

Health Asset Mapping (Ministry of Health website that identifies health assets in the municipality of Molina de Segura).

Group workshops on life skills for women.

Sleep school for the elderly.

Strategy in community pharmacies.

Pharmacists will provide advice and advice to patients on the proper use of benzodiazepines and refer patients to their doctor, following a protocol established before a health problem consultation related to stress and / or insomnia and recording each of their actions.

The pre-intervention results confirmed that between 2012 and 2015 the number of prescriptions increased and the user profile was modified: middle-aged women, with a higher level of education and unemployed.

Visits to the family doctor doubled in that period.

After three years of intervention, the daily dose defined per thousand inhabitants per day (DHD), was reduced in Molina de Segura by 7% in> 65 years and 4% in adults.

In adult women there was a slight increase of 1.4%.
