#YOMEQUEDOENCASA #YOCOMPOSTOENCASA, initiative of the Department of Environment of Molina de Segura to encourage composting and incorporate sustainable habits during the confinement by COVID-19 (07/04/2020)

The Department of Environment of the City of Molina de Segura has launched the initiative #YOMEQUEDOENCASA #YOCOMPOSTOENCASA during the confinement by COVID-19, in order to encourage citizens to compost and incorporate sustainable habits, as explained, Today Tuesday, April 7, the Councilor for the Environment, Mariano Vicente Albaladejo.

With this action, the Molina de Segura City Council enters the final stretch of the Bio-waste Domestic Composting Project.

The Project, started in May 2019, has the participation of 61 residents of Molina de Segura and a school, CEIP Cervantes.

Framed in the PIMA-Waste and PEMAR 2017 call, co-financed by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Molina de Segura City Council, it has the collaboration of the Ministry of Employment, Universities, Business and Environment of the Region of Murcia and the CEBAS-CSIC, through the Research Group of Enzymology and Bioremediation of Soils and Organic Wastes, led by Dr. Carlos García Izquierdo.

At the beginning of the project, the participants received free training and all the necessary material to make compost from the bio-waste generated in their homes. A composter, thermometer, aerator and practical manual has allowed them to start the process.

Likewise, through advice provided by specialists in the matter, through a social group created for this purpose, the residents make inquiries, solve problems and comment on their experience.

Also, many of them have received visits, which will continue until the end of the Project, when the state of alarm ends.

During the visits, a technician specialized in organic waste takes samples of the compost obtained to be able to analyze them at CEBAS-CSIC and report their quality and application in the participant's orchard or garden.

The Department of the Environment wants to encourage the residents of Molina de Segura, who are currently in their homes, complying with the confinement in compliance with the State of Alarm, to take advantage to valorize their organic waste through domestic composting and thus obtain your own compost.

Likewise, and for all those who have a vegetable garden or garden and want to start composting, he invites them to visit the website, where they can download the edited practical manual of Domestic Composting and find information on said project.

"With this initiative Mariano Vicente points out- we want to remind all the citizens of Molina de Segura of the importance of continuing to take care of the environment during confinement, taking advantage, now that we are at home, to incorporate more sustainable habits in consumption and proper separation of our waste. Domestic composting is one of these sustainable options. "
