Book Day 2020 #MolinaenCasa is marked this year by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic (22/04/2020)

The Department of Culture (#CulturaenCasa) of the City of Molina de Segura, through its Network of Libraries, commemorates on Thursday April 23 the International Book Day 2020 #MolinaenCasa, in an edition marked by the effects of the pandemic of the COVID-19.

And she not only wants to celebrate this very special day, but also, "in these difficult times, pay tribute to all of Culture, because, today more than ever, we must be united", according to the Councilor for Culture, Soledad Nortes Navarrese. Since 1995, at the proposal of Unesco, April 23 has been the International Book Day, as it is the date that coincides with the death of Miguel de Cervantes, William Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega.

It is on this day that the promotion and benefit of reading, the recognition of writers and the publishing industries, together with the protection of intellectual property through copyright, are honored. This year the celebration will be different, due to the state of home confinement caused by the coronavirus.

There will be no award ceremony for the Cervantes Prize, no in-person readings, book signing, discounts at bookstores, etc.

Libraries and cultural centers have had to reinvent themselves when preparing their activities and programs, carrying them out virtually. The programming of the Department of Culture of Moline on the Internet has a series of videos of different components of the world of culture; from already recognized writers (Máximo Huerta, Carmen Posadas, Megan Maxwell, Marta Gracia, Javier Iriondo, etc.) to other writers who also follow the same path.

Musicians, chroniclers, illustrators, magicians, storytellers and animated characters.

All of them congratulate us on this day and send us a message of encouragement. Such programming may be followed on Twitter (@ BibliotecaMerc1), on Facebook (Biblioteca Mercedes Mendoza), on YouTube (Culture at home Molina de Segura) and those who want to contact the Municipal Network of libraries, at the email library @ molinadesegura .is
