The Molina de Segura City Council launches the new European project LIFE CITYAdaP3 to improve adaptation to climate change in the urban environment (05/10/2020)

| It is a public-private collaboration project | On October 5 and 6, the initial meeting of the LIFE CITYAdaP3 Project, of public-private collaboration to improve adaptation to climate change in the urban environment, of the LIFE program is held, an online meeting that will have the participation of the project partners: the Federation of Municipalities of the Region of Murcia, as project leader, the city of Regio Emilia (Italy), the University of Murcia, the municipality of Alcantarilla and Lorquí and the company Eurovértice. The project has a total budget of 2,030,316.00 euros, of which 395,654 euros correspond to the pilot actions that will be developed in Molina de Segura between 2020 and 2024.

The European Commission finances this LIFE initiative with 55% of funds Europeans.

The project was selected by the European Agency for SMEs (EASME) in the LIFE 2019 call, modality of Adaptation to climate change (Climate Action sub-program). In the Molina de Segura project, the councils of European Projects, Environment, Urban Planning and Economic Promotion participate, through the Business Office, in addition to having the co-financing and an active role of the companies Plaásticos Romero, Hospital de Molina and Sercomosa. The Mayor of Molina de Segura, Esther Clavero Mira, indicates that "this new European project that is being launched in our city represents a novel opportunity that allows collaboration between companies and municipal administration, in the urgent task of adaptation to climate change, allowing, in turn, to act on municipal green spaces for their improvement and sustainable recovery ". Regarding the execution of the pilot actions in Molina de Segura, it should be noted that the following quantified results are expected to be obtained: Improvement of water drainage through the implementation of Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems in the Nelson Mandela municipal park. Intervention in urban parks to reduce surface temperature. Rehabilitation of an educational greenhouse in Molina de Segura to convert it into a bioclimatic classroom (140 m2) for activities to raise awareness about climate change. Evaluation of streets in Molina de Segura and definition of climate-resistant roads between the bioclimatic equipment and the Nelson Mandela rehabilitated urban park.
