The Molina de Segura City Council and Cáritas sign an agreement to assist people in vulnerable situations in 2020 (06/11/2020)

| The agreement was presented today, Friday, November 6, at the Municipal Plenary Hall, and includes a municipal subsidy of 60,000 euros | The 2020 agreement between the City Council of Molina de Segura and Cáritas Diocesana de Cartagena Cáritas Interparroquial de Molina de Segura for the project of reception, basic care and social support for people in a situation of serious social exclusion and / or vulnerability has been presented in a conference press today, Friday, November 6, in the Plenary Hall of the Molinense Consistory. The Mayor of the town, Esther Clavero Mira, the President of Cáritas Interparroquial de Molina de Segura, José León León, and the Councilor for Social Welfare, Ángel Navarro García, attended. The agreement includes a municipal subsidy for a total amount of 60,000 euros for this year 2020.

The objectives pursued by this agreement are: Provide people and families in extremely vulnerable situations with the coverage of basic needs due to material poverty. Attention to those people who, due to a social emergency situation, urgently require support in food, health, housing, education, transportation and / or personal and family documentation. According to the Councilor for Social Welfare, "with the signing of this agreement, financial support for an entity such as Cáritas is maintained, with a long history of developing actions to cover the basic needs of the most disadvantaged.

During what we have been year, 244 families have been referred to Cáritas from the Department of Social Welfare for basic food needs and, from the entity itself, a total of 548 families have been attended, of which 343 are within the Cáritas Food Bank ".

There is an increase in cases treated from the entity, which has been caused by a greater demand due to the current health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, especially in the period in which the state of alarm was decreed from ago a few months. A technical and institutional collaboration is established between the professionals of the Department of Social Welfare and Cáritas for those cases that, due to social situation or due to their special vulnerability, require a joint intervention based on technical criteria. The project beneficiaries are: People in long-term unemployment, recently unemployed or from low-skilled jobs who, due to lack of income or because they are recipients of benefits, cannot cover basic needs, and most have minors. Immigrant population, passers-by or other groups of the municipality in a situation of social exclusion. Single-parent families, with family responsibilities, generally not shared. People with a history of shelters or life on the street. The project is part of the Caritas Diócesis de Cartagena Emergency Program, which is developed through the Caritas Parroquiales Reception network to serve the most vulnerable population of the municipality, and consists of the following activities: Welcome Services and Personalized Attention: support and listening are provided, the demand is collected, mostly for hygiene products, clothing, footwear, medicines, housing and supplies, food and children's products. Financial aid to support maintenance in the habitual residence and access to basic supplies (electricity, water, rent, etc.). Distribution of food, clothing and hygiene.

Collection, classification and distribution of clothing and footwear, household equipment, toys ... Reception and Accompaniment of Homeless People, access to shower services, food and urban and interurban transport. Itineraries of socio-labor insertion for the acquisition of tools and skills that improve the employability of the participants, with support from volunteers. Payment of administrative fees for documentation of people with limited economic resources. Cáritas de Molina de Segura is based at Calle Oriente, n ° 7 (belongs to the Parish of Our Lady of the Assumption) and has a Social Worker and a Social Intervention Volunteer Team, in which 20 volunteers work .

The Mayor, Esther Clavero, highlighted "the importance and work of volunteers, who show their sensitivity on a daily basis through accompaniment and other tasks with different sectors of the most disadvantaged population."
