[Molina Basket, best club of the year for the United Nations of Basketball (07/01/2021)

The Molina Basket club has been designated as "Member Nation of the Year" in the UNBies Awards 2020 granted by the United Nations of Basketball (UNB).

The recognition as the most outstanding member of 2020 worldwide is the most important among the seven awards given by the organization.

These international awards from the UNB value the work of clubs on and off the pitch, observing both sports work and service to the community. In this first edition of the UNBies Awards, the Molina Basket club has obtained the highest award.

The UNB wanted to highlight the work, passion and dedication for basketball of the Molinenses.

Alan Walls, Secretary General of the United Nations for Basketball, especially underlines "the enthusiasm and active participation" at the sports and social level of Molina Basket. In the sports field, Molina Basket is once again the club with the most numerous in the Region of Murcia this season, with more than 300 federative chips.

In addition, it has a group for children under six years of age, another for mothers of players and club players, and a school adapted for boys and girls with neurobiological disorders.

To all this are added social initiatives, such as collecting food, clothing or toys for disadvantaged people. This social involvement with the community has been a key factor in the election of Molina Basket as the most prominent member of the United Nations in Basketball in 2020. Among the others awarded by the UNB stands out the social project of the year, awarded to the Shooting Touch in Boston (United States).

This American association has implemented in Rwanda a mental health and well-being program, developed in the framework of the Covid-19 pandemic and where basketball has been a fundamental axis. The rest of the individual winners have been Tamara Awartani, from Palestine Sports 4 Life, in the category of best management of the year; Puale Craig, from the Riverside Basketball Club of Samoa, and Douglas Flores, from the Sonics Basketball Club of El Salvador, as best coaches; Janay Lesley, from Shooting Touch in the United States, and Harvey Guevarra, from BEST Sport Center in the Philippines, as best players. The UNB wants to recognize with these awards the work ethic and dedication of the people who make up sports clubs towards basketball and towards its different social environments around the world. Molina Basket has been the first club in Spain to join this association.

Last December he had a brilliant participation in the U17 world skills tournament organized by the United Nations of Basketball, signing a second place in the male category and a third place in the female category.
