The white-headed duck (Oxyura leucocephala) is a Waterfowl endangered.

The main objective of this project, promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Water of the Region of Murcia, is the conservation of the white-headed duck (Oxyura leucocephala) and its habitat in three wetlands in the Region of Murcia: Lagunas de Campotéjar-Salar Gordo (Molina de Segura), Lagunas de Las Moreras (Mazarrón) and Lagunas de Las Salinas (Alhama de Murcia).

As LIFE project beneficiaries associated with the municipalities of Alhama de Murcia, Mazarrón and Molina de Segura participate.

The project is developed through a series of actions intended to reconcile the purification of urban wastewater (which is done in modern treatment plants), with the conservation of the white-headed duck, which can be found in the ponds where the treated wastewater is stored.
