The City of Molina de Segura launches a workshop urban garden for people at risk or social exclusion (02/11/2016)

The Department of Social Welfare of the City of Molina de Segura has launched a workshop on urban gardening for people at risk or social exclusion, which takes place from October 17, 2016 until May 29, 2017, in the Day Center of the Association of Disabled Molina de Segura and Vega Media (ism), Mondays in time from 09.30 to 13.30 hours.

The workshop has the participation of 13 people affiliated Accompaniment Program for Social Inclusion (PAIN) and other services of this Department, prior derivation of professional reference, attending a total of 28 sessions.

It also has the support of users ism for the development of certain activities.

This initiative is aimed at participants to acquire basic knowledge about agriculture that can implement, develop skills and basic skills, and promoting solidarity and social participation through cooperation with the association of the municipality.

For its development it has professionals in the Department of Social Welfare: professional team Accompaniment Programme (1 Social worker and social educator 1) and gardening instructor Disability Program.

Since the Accompaniment Program for Social Inclusion of Molina de Segura have been developing various proposals for group work since 2012, having developed four different kinds of group processes to the current date:

2012: Social Skills Workshop (8 sessions).

Basic Skills.

2013: Expres-Arte (12 sessions) Addressing self-knowledge through various artistic activities.

2014: I Care (16 sessions).

Promotion of self-care.

2015: Emotions in motion (25 sessions).

Identification and management of emotions for personal growth.

As explained by the Councillor for Social Welfare, Angel Navarro Garcia, "after the experience gained, we value initiate a more oriented to the social dimension of the individual, to promote his concept as citizens through activities designed to put people working group process in relation to the social environment in which they live. to this end, we will promote alternatives to know other consumer entertainment, a broader view of the municipality in which they live, as well as different from their own personal realities. "

The aim of this workshop is to make an educational proposal that combines personal learning processes and community service in a single project, in which participants are formed to engage in the real needs of the environment in order to improve it.

This project aims to value the work that the PAIN in the processes of exclusion of people, welcoming each individual with their differences and difficulties, to place them in the living environment from a position of greater dignity and respect.

and responds to the recommendations of European policies on poverty and exclusion, methodological proposals of EAPN and generally the most current approaches to social participation of vulnerable groups and / or social exclusion.

Concerning the group process

Strengthen psychosocial skills and the ability to participate in social life positively.

Regarding the task

Promote the acquisition of knowledge regarding the development and care of urban gardens

Basics treatment and maintenance of plants.

Practices specific tasks of gardening in general: transplanting, irrigation, cleaning, etc.

Plant maintenance.
