The 6th RETINA MURCIA Day will be held in Molina de Segura on Saturday, 13 May (04/05/2017)

The 6th RETINA MURCIA Conference will take place in Molina de Segura on Saturday, 13 May, from 10.00 to 18.00 hours, in the auditorium of the Infancy Education School of Paseo Rosales, organized by the Retina Murcia Association (RETIMUR), in collaboration with The Molina de Segura City Council, the Hospital de Molina, the Spanish Federation of Rare Diseases (FEDER), the Federation of Pigmentosan Retinosis Associations of Spain (FARPE), Dokusou Editions, and the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality.

The day has been presented at a press conference in the Molinense City Hall, on Thursday May 4, by the Mayor of Molina de Segura, Esther Clavero Mira, the President of RETIMUR, David Sánchez González, Councilor of Public Health, Esther Sánchez Rodríguez , The Managing Director of the Molina Hospital, Pedro Hernández Jiménez, and the President of FEDER, Juan Carrión Tudela.

During this act a minute of silence has been kept in memory of the neighbor of Archena who died on Tuesday, the victim of an aggression in the Hospital de Molina.

The event is declared of Scientific Sanitary Interest by the General Directorate of Socio-Sanitary Planning, Pharmacy and Citizen Care of the Region of Murcia, and is a meeting forum for scientists, students and professionals of the retina, low vision and Visual impairment in the Region of Murcia.

Attendance to the event requires prior registration, but is free.

RETIMUR bets strong and joins the celebration of the National Year of the Retina with the organization of its first Retina Week.

The program includes as a central act this VI Retina Murcia Day, which, this time, is held in Molina de Segura morning and afternoon session, although during the previous days, the group will give lectures on the clinical and scientific aspects of diseases of The retina in the Faculty of Optics Optometry of the University of Murcia and the Faculty of Medicine of the Catholic University San Antonio.

In parallel, and together with the Ministry of Health, the Guide to Clinical Practices in Hereditary Dystrophies of the Retina, published by the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality, will be published and will be available at www.guiassalud.es.

Saturday's program will begin with the conference of Dr. Jerónimo Lajara, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences of the Catholic University of San Antonio and ophthalmologist.

Lajara is part of a UCAM team that has participated in the research led by the prestigious scientist Juan Carlos Izpisua, who has made great strides in correcting the mutations that cause retinitis pigmentosa, the main cause of hereditary blindness in the world.

The day will also address the importance of the associative world to promote research, as well as the social rights of the people affected and their families.

And he will do it in a roundtable in which the Technical Director of the Observatory of Rare Diseases will participate and professor of the University of Almeria, Antonio Miguel Bañón;

The President of the Spanish Federation of Rare Diseases (FEDER), Juan Carrión;

And the technician of the Department of Citizen Participation of the City of Molina de Segura, Juan Francisco García Saorín.

The morning will culminate with the lecture on new intraocular lenses for patients with macular degeneration, by the Professor and Director of the Laboratory of Optics of the University of Murcia, and President of the Foundation of Medical Studies of Molina (FEM), Dr. Pablo Artal .

After the meal, two talks will be held, which can serve those affected in their daily lives.

The first will address the effects of feeding on vision and will be given by the Director of the Ophthalmological Research Unit Santiago Grisolía, Dr. María Dolores Pinazo.

Lastly, the accessibility specialist Ramón Corominas will show the advantages offered by new technologies to people with low vision.
