Molina de Segura City Council launches the Volunteer Project POR AND FOR SENIORS (12/06/2017)

The Municipality of Molina de Segura, through the Department of Social Welfare, has launched the Volunteer Project POR AND FOR SENIORS, aimed at people over 60, belonging or not to any association of the municipality, from a double slope : Those who want to collaborate in the different programs and projects, developed in a continuous, altruistic and free way;

And those older who require a volunteer to attend to their demands and needs.

Councilor for Social Welfare, Ángel Navarro García, explained that the objective of this project is "to make the elderly group put their vital project in the foreground, connecting with their environment through volunteer social support for elderly living alone And require accompaniment and / or attention in resource management, and for projects of social insertion. "

The Volunteer Project POR AND FOR ELDERLY deals with:

Involve the collective of older people in social voluntary actions.

Promote community participation, solidarity actions and the involvement of neighbors in the solution of the problems that occur in their closest environment.

Respond to the demand made by citizens of the municipality, who jointly want to exchange services and activities.

Carry out participatory actions in the community with volunteers.

Maintain contact with the social networks of the municipality and coordination with the associative tissue of the area in order to avoid overlaps in the actions.

Encourage and give continuity to an ENGINE group of greater volunteers.

Establish specific measures of motivation and integration of volunteers.

Connect and initiate the recruitment of the most active elderly people in the neighborhoods, associations of elderly people, neighbors, etc.

Manage the group of volunteers, through training and support.

"Participation in voluntary work makes the elderly feel useful and integrated in the environment, preventing risks of social marginalization and physiological deterioration." Accompaniment at home.

Reminder in medication administration.

Accompaniment in the execution of procedures and procedures.

Accompaniment of leisure and free time (walks, visits, and cultural activity).

Small home repairs that do not require professional intervention.

Participation in awareness campaigns and training.

All activities that are determined from the program provided that the activities of the volunteers do not replace, in any case, paid work activities.

Accompaniment in activities organized by other entities.

Support for therapeutic activities recommended by specialists.

Childhood and adolescence.

Carrying out activities for the improvement of cognitive abilities.

Substitute grandparents.

School support tasks aimed at children and adolescents.

All activities that are determined from the program provided that the activities of the volunteers do not replace, in any case, paid work activities.

Support for associations and non-profit organizations.

Support for activities organized in the area, by non-profit organizations.

Participation in awareness campaigns and training in Associations.

A Social Worker will carry out the coordination of the project, whose budget amounts to 733 euros (for expenses of insurance policy of the 50 volunteers and edition of information leaflets).

"By fostering the protagonism of the elderly in social activities and fostering intergenerational interrelation, we managed to improve their self-image and favor Active and Healthy Aging, all aimed at achieving a better quality of life and full development," concludes Councilman Social Welfare.
