The City Council of Molina de Segura approves the new Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (29/06/2017)

The presentation of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (PMUS) of Molina de Segura was held today, June 29, in the Plenary Hall of the City Council.

The Mayor of Molina de Segura, Esther Clavero Mira, the Mobility Councilor, Antonio López Vidal, the Director of the PMUS (from the PROINTEC winning company), Ana Isabel Arranz Cuenca, and the PROINTEC Contractor Technician Ricardo García Álvarez.

The PMU of Molina de Segura was finally approved by the Town Hall Plenary on Monday, June 26, and includes the creation of the Mobility Office, which will allow to evaluate the evolution of mobility and the effects of the Plan in the municipality, and will be The one in charge to follow up the proposals formulated in the Plan.

"This project is born of the decisions of the citizens, who, through the Participatory Budgets of 2015, decides to spend 70,000 euros in their preparation," explains Mobility Councilor Antonio López Vidal.

It has been promoted by the Department of Mobility and carried out by the PROINTEC consultancy, in collaboration with the citizens in all the phases in which the drafting procedure has been divided, through a Working Tables, composed of local associations, municipal technicians and Professionals in the sector.

"The PMUS represents one of the best ways to be able to act on the current problems that in our municipality (urban center, districts and urbanizations) can represent the mobility," says López Vidal.

"It is a living document, open to everyone's participation, and it will certainly lead the municipality to a future in which pedestrians, public transport, bicycles and private vehicles co-exist and share A rational way ".

Molina de Segura is the third municipality in the Region of Murcia to have a Mobility Plan, which also allows the City Council to access new public subsidies.

The representatives of the company PROINTEC, Ana Isabel Arranz Cuenca and Ricardo García Álvarez, explained that the document includes a diagnosis of the municipality, elaborated through a campaign of field data collection (through numerous surveys and assessments of vehicles And pedestrians), which, along with the extensive Public Participation process, offers proposals that aim to implement more sustainable forms of displacement, in order to guarantee a better quality of life for the citizens of Molina de Segura.

At the event a promotional video has been presented, which defines the key points on which the PMUS of Molina de Segura is based, and the main proposals for action.

Among the main objectives are: to achieve a more rational and sustainable use of the car (efficient car park management);

Improvement of pedestrian mobility;

Increased participation of public transport in motorized mobility;

And promotion of use of the bicycle as a means of actual transport.

The measures are defined in 5 action programs, on: road and parking;

Pedestrian mobility;

public transport;

Cycling mobility;

And other mobility management.

The main actions on the road and parking include the planning of the circulation around the center, by: restricting the traffic of passage and agitation, in the streets Jesuita Hernandez Perez, Station and Mayor;

And extension and closure of the external Round and improvement of the deterrent car park network, so as to guarantee residents the possibility of parking and reducing the traffic of agitation.

Program of improvement of the public transport: relocation of the Station of Buses, reordering of the lines of urban and interurban transport, and extension of the taxi stop.

Program of improvement of the pedestrian mobility: creation of a network of pedestrian routes and extension of the pedestrian space in the historical center.

Improvement of cycling mobility: improvement of signposting on the public thoroughfare, improvement of the Vía Verde, and continuity of the bike lanes that come from urbanizations and districts.

In other management measures: creation of the Mobility Office, promotion of Mobility Plans in industrial estates, implementation of an Integral Mobility Information Point and development of a Mobility and Traffic Regulation that integrates all modes of transport .

In addition, the document defines the monitoring indicators, which will allow to verify the achievement of the objectives that the PMUS contemplates.
