The City of Molina de Segura signs a collaboration agreement with AFAD for the care of Alzheimer's patients and other dementias. The agreement was signed today Monday, July 3, in the City of Mine, and provides for a municipal grant of 22,000 euro (03/07/2017)

The act of signing the collaboration agreement between the City Council of Molina de Segura and the Association of Relatives of Alzheimer's Disease and Other Dementias (AFAD Molina) for the care of such patients through the project Therapies against Oblivion took place today Monday July 3, in the town hall.

The Mayor of the town, Esther Clavero Mira, AFAD Day Center Director Consuelo Yagües Fernández and Councilor for Social Welfare, Ángel Navarro García attended the event.

The agreement aims at an economic collaboration between the City Council, which makes a contribution of 22,000 euros, and AFAD, which develops actions in the sector of people with Alzheimer's and other dementias in the municipality, in order to:

- Support families to deal with the impact of having a family member with Alzheimer's disease.

- Maintain and stimulate the mental capacities of all users of the association, as well as identity, creativity and communication.

- Support in the operation of Day Center.

- Promote interpersonal relationships, tolerance and respect through the management of social skills that improve autonomy in the activities of daily living.

AFAD, whose headquarters are currently located in the El Jardín Center, is an entity that works with people diagnosed with Alzheimer's and other dementias, and their relatives, with actions to respond to the needs derived from said disease, seeking cognitive, physical stimulation , Social, emotional and family respite.

It serves a total of 60 people, mostly women.

Through the project Therapies against Oblivion, it is intended to maintain and stimulate the mental capacities of the patient and to enhance the skills that improve the autonomy in the development of activities of daily living.

This is done with the following actions:

Day Center, from 09.00 to 18.00 hours, where services and activities are provided:

Workshops on Cognitive Therapies, Plastic, Painting and Crochet.

Family Information Service.

Basic nursing care.

Health care.

AFAF has the following human resources for the performance of its activities: 1 Pedagogue, 2 Monitors / Educators, 1 Social Worker, 3 Nursing Assistants, 1 Diploma in Nursing, and 1 Administrative.
