The City of Molina de Segura presents a new awareness campaign against the abandonment of animals (18/07/2017)

The Town Council of Molina de Segura launches an awareness campaign against the abandonment of animals, which is carried out in collaboration with the Association of Animals of Molina de Segura (APAMS) and the Official Veterinary Association of the Region of Murcia.

The initiative was presented at a press conference on Tuesday 18 July by the Mayor of Molina de Segura, Esther Clavero Mira, the Councilor for Public Health, Esther Sánchez Rodríguez, the President of the Official Veterinary Association of the Region of Murcia (COLVET Murcia), Fulgencio Fernández Buendía, and the President of the Protective Animal Association of Molina de Segura (APAMS), Laura Belda Soto.

The campaign is the result of the will of the great majority of the citizens of Molina de Segura, in the struggle for the welfare of animals, in order to avoid their abandonment and suffering.

The Councilor for Public Health, Esther Sánchez, has invited "all citizens of the municipality to show respect and love to animals denouncing any type of action that may cause them suffering."

He also pointed out that "abandonment constitutes a crime in our Penal Code (Law 10/1995, article 337 bis)".

For her part, the Mayor, Esther Clavero, recalled that "the City of Molina de Segura has for a few months with a new Municipal Ordinance of Tenure and Animal Welfare, with which we have made a qualitative leap in the municipality in the matter of Protection and welfare of animals ".

ANIMAL DATA IN MOLINA DE SEGURA

- Dogs registered, until January 2017, according to the COLVET: 9.217.

- Animals abandoned on the road (dogs, cats, horses, pigs ...): 137.

- Animals lost in the public thoroughfare and recovered by their owner in the Municipal Zoosanitary Center: 52.

- Animals delivered by owners at the Municipal Zoosanitary Center: 25.

Adopted and adopted animals: 127.
