The City of Molina de Segura joins the European Mobility Week from 16 to 22 September (15/09/2017)

The Town Council of Molina de Segura, through the Department of Mobility, has designed a program of activities to celebrate the European Mobility Week, which will take place from 16 to 22 September.

The initiative was presented at a press conference on Friday, September 15, by the Mayor of Molina de Segura, Esther Clavero Mira, and Mobility Councilor, Antonio López Vidal.

Under the motto of SHARING YOU LEADS AWAY, the City Council of Molina de Segura adds, for the second consecutive year, the celebration of the European Mobility Week, developing a series of activities to promote mobility with the theme chosen for this year, Clean Mobility.

Shared and Intelligent.

The European Mobility Week (SEM) is coordinated at the state level by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.

It is an awareness campaign aimed at raising awareness among politicians and citizens about the negative consequences of the car's irrational use in the city, both for public health and for the environment, and the benefits of using it more sustainable modes of transport such as public transport, cycling and walking, coupled with a more rational use of the private vehicle.

For Mobility Councilor Antonio López Vidal, "achieving smart and sustainable mobility is a long process that requires not only political support but committed partnerships. It requires coordination and commitment of local agents, without them, final benefactors of sustainable mobility, we have nothing, only the illusion of getting a friendlier Molina, adapted to the new times and this will be achieved with the commitment, the work and the illusion of all Above all, a change of mentality is necessary. "

To this end, a program of activities has been developed to promote mobility, but above all to provide people with the opportunity to think about the real usefulness of the streets of our cities, as well as to discuss concrete solutions that address challenges such as air pollution and noise, congestion, traffic accidents and health problems.

For her part, the Mayor of Molina de Segura stressed that "this type of awareness and participation activities are very important, as they bring the citizen to the existing problem with excessive use of the private vehicle and guides you in the adoption of habits more healthy and economical, so that our urban center, its streets, promenades and squares are more livable and more friendly to those who live and move in them.

This initiative emerged in Europe in 1999 and from the year 2000 was supported by the European Commission, which set two ambitious goals for urban mobility: gradually eliminate diesel cars from cities by 2050 and make a transition to logistics urban development of zero emissions in major urban centers by 2030. With this strategic perspective, four priority areas for 2017 have been established: innovation, digitization, decarbonization and citizenship.

The theme chosen this year 2017 by the European Commission is focused on clean, shared and intelligent mobility and the motto is: Sharing takes you further !.

The European Union encourages us to promote shared mobility solutions and highlight the benefits of cleaner modes of transport, drawing on intelligent transport technologies.

The activities are especially aimed at publicizing the benefits of sustainable mobility, promoting public transport, using bicycle, providing information to the traveler and raising awareness about accessibility, as a right to social inclusion.

These are some of the activities to be developed during their celebration.

In addition to promoting the use of sustainable means, the Department of Mobility will launch in the coming days a permanent measure, as indicated by the theme of this year, Clean Mobility.

Shared and Intelligent.

To this end, the City of Molina de Segura will launch a new project, which consists of facilitating the meeting of people who are interested in sharing the private vehicle to make a trip.

The SHARING CAR project tries to encourage a more rational use of the car among the population.

The service is to facilitate the meeting of people who are interested in sharing the private vehicle to make a trip.

Among the objectives of this project: to provide the citizens of the City of Molina de Segura another alternative in their travel taking into account measures of sustainability in mobility;

reduce pollution and energy consumption of private vehicles;

and improve the use of public space.
