The jury of the XIV Setenil Prize, meeting today Wednesday, October 25, has agreed to grant the award to Pedro Ugarte, for his book Our Story, published by the editorial Pages of Foam, Madrid.

The jury, composed of Pilar Adón, Carmen Valcárcel, Aurora Gil Bohórquez and Manuel Moyano, has chosen this work from among the 117 presented by publishers and authors from all over Spain, in which it has been the most popular edition of the award.

Promoted by the Department of Culture of the City of Molina de Segura and known as "the Oscar of the story," the Setenil Prize has a prize of 10,000 euros for the author of the winning book.

The award-winning writer, Pedro Ugarte (Bilbao, 1963), studied Law and Economics, but has always worked as an economist, currently at the University of the Basque Country.

Along with other genres, he has devoted much of his literary work to short storytelling, with books such as The Traffickers of Words, Handbook for Foreigners, The Island of Komodo, The Expedition, or Private Wars, which was the NH Prize for story books.

His short pieces appear in numerous anthologies.

Finalist of the prize Herralde, has won among others the Euskadi Prizes of Literature, Language of Rag and Julio Camba.

The book that won the 14th Setenil Prize, Our History, is developed in the landscape of today's society, struck by an economic crisis whose effects extend to all orders of life, but the value of its narrations transcends any geographical limitation or temporal.

The characters are portrayed in their virtues and defects, in their daily eagerness and their obsessions, achieving the author a perfect balance between humor and melancholy.

The pages of Our Story are revealed as a reflection on happiness.

The winners of the previous editions of Setenil, considered one of the most important awards in the national literary scene, have been Alberto Méndez, Juan Pedro Aparicio, Cristina Fernández Cubas, Sergi Pàmies, Óscar Esquivias, Fernando Clemot, Francisco López Serrano, David Roas, Clara Obligado, Ignacio Ferrando, Javier Sáez de Ibarra, Emilio Gavilanes and Diego Sánchez Aguilar.

The award ceremony of the 14th Setenil Prize will take place in December 2017, in the Town Hall of Molina de Segura, with the assistance of the award-winning author, jurors and different authorities.
