Synopsis

History of love and (dis) encounter between a university professor (Joaquín), of advanced age, who no longer expects anything from life, and his colleague-doctoral student (Isabel), a beautiful young woman about twenty years younger than him, divorced from a wealthy American doctor who now lives with her boyfriend and takes care of her seriously ill brother.

Chance, or circumstances, will cause Joaquin to become Isabel's thesis director who will deal with "Existentialism in Hemingway: The Sun Also Rises."

If the love relationship between Jake and Brett, protagonists in Hemingway's novel, could not be materialized by the impotence that Jake caused a war wound, the one between Joaquin and Isabel seems that it can not continue because of Joaquín's "psychic wound" suffered almost thirty years before, when another young woman of great beauty left him when getting a teaching position at the university.
