The Environmental Volunteer Program Volunteers Naturally !, promoted by the Department of the Environment of the Molina de Segura City Council, proposes a new activity to follow the Chough, which will take place on Saturday, January 27, starting at 10.00 am (departure at 0930 hours in front of the headquarters of the Department of the Environment, Avenida de Madrid), in the Sierra de la Pila.

On this occasion, the volunteers join a proposal of the Biological Monitoring Program of Threatened Vertebrate Fauna, organized by the General Directorate of Natural Environment of the Region of Murcia and the Caramucel Association, nature and history.

This involves participating in the follow-up and winter census 2018 roosts of red-billed chough (pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax), in the ZEPA (Special Protection Area for Birds) Sierra de la Pila.

The red-billed chough is a threatened corvid whose presence in the Sierra de la Pila gives this Regional Park consideration as a ZEPA, a figure of protection for the Natura 2000 Network.

The activity begins at the Nature Information Center Alto del Rellano, at 10.00, with an introductory training session on the species and the natural environment of the Sierra de la Pila, by an expert in monitoring and census of this bird.

In the afternoon, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, the volunteers will organize themselves in work groups to carry out the sighting of the choughs and their roosts.

The Councilor for the Environment, Juan Alcaide Quirós, has indicated that "we bet for the citizen participation in the improvement and conservation of the environment of our locality, highlighting the Environmental Volunteering program as an ideal tool for education and environmental communication, essential for better management, for the prevention and resolution of environmental problems, and I want to thank the work done by the volunteers and encourage the participation of citizens interested in the conservation and improvement of the local environment. "

The Environmental Volunteering Program is aimed at all those over 14 years of age interested in the conservation of natural spaces and the urban environment.

Prior registration is required, which can be done through the website of the City Council www.molinadesegura.es.

The activities of this program are developed on the last Saturday of each month in the morning.
