The Blue Patrol will be responsible for ensuring the welfare of pets and inform owners about their duties and rights

Molina de Segura will be the first municipality in the Region of Murcia to have a Blue Patrol for Animal Welfare, an organ that will watch over the welfare of companion animals and that will inform on the street about the duties and rights of their owners .

The initiative was presented at a press conference today, Friday, January 26, in the Plenary Hall of the Molinense City Council, by the Councilor for Public Health, Esther Sánchez Rodríguez, the First Deputy Mayor and Local Police Councilman, Fernando Miñana Hurtado, the Councilor for Citizen Participation, Pedro Jesús Martínez Baños, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Animal Protector of Molina de Segura, Cari Sánchez Alarcón.

The Blue Patrol will be formed by volunteers from the animal protection entities of the municipality, and among its main objectives are to serve as a channel to file complaints for animal abuse or abandonment or achieve a better social integration in the urban environment, informing the owners of animals of the regulations in this regard.

This new body, which will depend on the Office of Animal Protection of the Department of Public Health, will have a mediating and informative work, and in no case will replace the police work.

Thus, the volunteers who make up the patrol will always act in collaboration with the Local Police.

The Animal Welfare Patrol will act mainly in streets, neighborhoods and squares, where the owners usually walk their animals, as well as in rural environments, all within the municipality of Molina de Segura.

The volunteers of this patrol must belong to legally constituted animal protection entities, be of legal age, have no criminal record, and have not been sanctioned for mistreatment and / or animal abandonment.

The Blue Patrol of Animal Protection is articulated through the Municipal Ordinance for the possession, protection and welfare of animals in Molina de Segura, which has also put into operation the Controlled Feline Colonies, through the CES project, by which the wild cats of the municipality, as much of the urban space as rural, are fed, sterilized and identified to be able to assure the well-being, as much of the felines as of the neighbors of the municipality.

With this ordinance, Molina de Segura is placed at the forefront in animal welfare and protection, ahead of the rest of the municipalities of the Region, since its approval on May 11, 2017.
