The Environmental Volunteering Program ¡Molina, Voluntari @ s Naturalmente !, promoted by the Department of the Environment of the Molina de Segura City Council, develops on Saturday, February 24, from 10 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., a Plantation activity of native species in the Vicente Blanes Ecological Park.
According to statements from the Councilor for the Environment, Juan Alcaide, "The Volunteers will collaborate in the reforestation of this municipal natural area located in the district of Rellano, which will allow them to know and identify the native arboreal and shrub species found in the Park , its characteristics and adaptations, understand the importance of this action in the fight against climate change and the mitigation of our carbon footprint, as well as the contribution to minimize the effects of soil erosion.
The revegetation of the Park is one of the actions of the conservation and environmental improvement program of the Vicente Blanes Ecological Park, coordinated by Carmen Mondéjar, a municipal biologist, whose objective is the conservation of its biodiversity and its natural resources and values.
Priority is given to actions aimed at increasing indigenous biodiversity, qualitative improvement of plant formations, natural regeneration and restoration of the Park's landscape with sustainability criteria, favoring the formation of fertile soils, conservation and improvement of the landscape, to the health care of specific pests, to the adaptation for the public use for even better enjoyment of the visitors, to the formation and environmental education of the citizenship, to the promotion of the development of the local economy, sustainable and respectful, linked to the Park.
They will be planted around 250 plants of autochthonous tree species such as carob, strawberry or Aleppo pine and other shrubs such as black hawthorn, mastic, bitter thyme, rosemary, lavender, juniper, bayon or rabogato.
The Councilor for the Environment Juan Alcaide notes that "From the Department of the Environment we consider fundamental the involvement of the population in conservation activities and improvement of the environment for the improvement of the local environment and the conservation of the natural heritage, in this sense the program of environmental volunteering is an ideal tool for communicating the environmental values ​​of our municipality and for the involvement and participation of citizens in its conservation and encourages citizens to collaborate in this important work ".
The activities of the Molina de Segura Environmental Volunteer program that coordinates the Technique of the Environmental Education Service Mª José Hernández, are held on the last Saturday of each month and are aimed at all those over 14 years old interested in the conservation of spaces natural and in the improvement of our city.
