The Town Hall of Molina de Segura organizes the activity Walk through the Cemetery (10/04/2018)

The City of Molina de Segura, through the councils of Cemetery and Tourism, in collaboration with the Municipal Archive, organizes the activity Walk through the Cemetery, a tour of some streets of the Municipal Cemetery by the writer Molino Paco López Mengual.

This walk through the Cemetery of Molina de Segura, through its tombs and pantheons, will allow you to explore the economic, political and cultural history of the town.

The activity was presented at a press conference today, Tuesday, April 10 by the Councilman of Cemetery and Municipal Archive, José de Haro González, the Councilor for Tourism, Andrés Martínez Cervantes, and the writer Paco López Mengual.

Walk through the cemetery will reveal the funerary heritage of the town, where, uniquely, history, art, customs and memory are intertwined.

These "open-air museums" allow the story of towns and cities to be told in an original and novel way, through the people buried there.

The activity will take place from April 22 to June 3, free of charge, at the following times:

Sunday, April 22: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Point councilors Andrés Martínez Cervantes and José de Haro González, that the objective of this activation is to serve as a tourist attraction and value the municipal heritage, looking at the cemetery as a place where the history of a city is told, of all its environment.

This new project promoted by the City of Molina de Segura allows to open wide the doors of the Municipal Cemetery Ntra. Sra. De la Consolación.

"The cemeteries are much more than simple walled enclosures where we buried our deceased ... if you know how to look, they are open books that tell us stories carved in the marble of their tombstones, they are places full of life, of past memories. Molina de Segura is inhabited by more than 30,000 people, and although it is a city designed for the dead, is planned as a city of life: with its streets, divided into blocks, with its large avenue and its adjacent roads, its squares and gardens, their service areas ... With their neighborhood for the rich and their poor areas ", explains Paco López Mengual.

"I propose a peaceful walk through the cemetery of Molina," continues López Mengual, "through the tombstones of its tombs and pantheons, we will take a tour of the economic, political and cultural history of the town, a walk through the names that achieved the splendor of the preserve and its auxiliary industries, a trip to the past, a pleasant itinerary reviewing curious characters, anecdotes, musicians, writers, legends and customs ".
