The Senior Center of Barrio del Carmen develops the workshop Mayores and Memoria (12/04/2018)

The Mayor of Molina de Segura, Esther Clavero Mira, and the Councilor for Social Welfare, Ángel Navarro García, visit the workshop Mayores and Memory, promoted by the Department of Social Welfare of the City of Molinense, through the Unit for the Elderly, TODAY, Thursday, April 12, at 4:30 p.m., in the Social Center of Barrio del Carmen (in Calle Reyes Católicos).

The workshop is part of the program of activities for the revitalization of senior centers for the months of March to December 2018, aimed at the elderly population of the municipality with the aim of improving the quality of life of older people through activities that encourage active aging.

Specifically, this workshop aims to: promote the autonomy of individuals through practical exercises that allow them to improve their memory;

improve the quality of life of the participants in the tasks of their daily lives;

Prevenirel deterioration of affect-cognitive aspects;

develop and nurture cognitive-psychological aspects;

achieve the stimulation of the different senses;

and work the aspects of short and long-term memory.

It is aimed at members of the Senior Center of Barrio del Carmen.

Throughout the year, the Senior Unit promotes activities for the elderly group in Molina de Segura, and memory workshops have been programmed in different centers.

"The main purpose is to optimize the functioning of memory, given that advanced age often makes it difficult. Among other advantages, this activity also makes it possible to acquire knowledge previously ignored, this day with respect to facts or current news and dealing with qualified professionals" , explains the Councilor for Social Welfare.

"In the past, this practice focused exclusively on the treatment of different pathologies, on the contrary, at present, its preventive approach is very widespread among the healthy population, and memory workshops are a stimulating group activity," concludes Navarro.

The Senior Workshop and Memory includes group activities of cognitive stimulation aimed at older people.

These are learning spaces that aim to reduce cognitive changes associated with age, while providing strategies that improve memory capacity.
