The campaign takes place from 8 to 24 November
The Department of Public Safety, Traffic and Local Police of the City of Molina de Segura collaborate with the Traffic Department in the Special Campaign on the control of mobile phone use and other behaviors that cause distraction on driving, which will run from 8-24 November.
Studies show that distraction is listed as contributing factor in 38% of accidents.
Roadside distraction factor is presented as 44% of cases and in urban areas by 34%.
Some behaviors that cause distraction on driving are:
Dial a phone number on your mobile.
Answering a phone call.
Lighting a cigarette.
Adjusting the radio or CD player.
Set your browser.
Mobile phone use is a factor which quadruples the risk of an accident.
In the new Law 18/2009 of 23 November, amending the Road Safety Act regarding penalties, is classified as a serious breach into driving manually using mobile devices, browsers or any other communication system .
Agents during the campaign, shall monitor and control the distractions while driving and, in particular the use of mobile phones.
Some of the advice of the Directorate General of Traffic to citizens, both drivers and non drivers are:
Deter drivers or take the phone call while driving.
Before a phone call if the recipient will think about driving.
If so do not call.
We are all responsible.
Disconnect the phone without hands free while driving.
It will be safest.
Nothing can be so urgent to offset the risk of an accident.
Handsfree phones, the only permitted, they are less dangerous than others, but not decrease all risks: distraction, signals that are not seen, increased reaction time, maneuver without signaling.
