The jury of the VII Prize for Best Book Setenil stories published in Spain 2009, meeting on 11 November, has agreed to grant the award to Francisco López Serrano for her book Habits of chance, published by Renaissance Publishing (Seville).
The jury, composed by Andrew Neuman, Maria Dueñas, Ramón Jiménez Madrid and Manuel Moyano, chose this work from among the 82 submitted by publishers and authors from all over Spain.
Setenil Award, organized by the Culture Department of the City of Molina de Segura, has a budget of 12,000 euros for the winner, and also includes a reprint edition with one or more accounts of the winner.
The award-winning writer, Francisco López Serrano (Épila, Zaragoza, 1960) has published the novels The country of the rain, portrait of the murderer in practice and The Field of Miracles, and the books of accounts The liver is another Shakespeare and God .
He is also author of five books of poems, and throughout his career he has obtained, among others, Luis Cernuda's poetry awards and Ignacio Aldecoa stories.
Translator of English poets, works in literary magazines and newspapers such as Clarín, Turia or Heraldo de Aragón.
The winning book, Habits of chance, collects ten short stories of remarkable originality and impeccable that combine lyricism with humor.
The Jury Prize Setenil VII has not wanted but note the extraordinary quality of two other contenders for the prize books during the final votes, had a fierce battle with the winner: Under the influence of the comet, Jon Bilbao (Page Break ) and Lowest Show on Earth, Felix J.
Palma (Pages foam).
It is expected that the ceremony of the VII Prize Setenil takes place December 16, 2010, in the Plenary Hall of the Ayuntamiento de Molina de Segura, with the assistance of prize-winning author of jurors and from different authorities.
Winners of previous editions of Setenil, an award and fully implemented in the national literary scene, have been Alberto Mendez, for The Blind Sunflowers, Juan Pedro Aparicio, and white life, Cristina Fernandez Cubas, Kinship poor devil Sergi Pamies, if you eat a lemon without making faces, Óscar Esquivias, for The Mark of Crete, and Fernando Clement, due to stagnation of the Chiado.
In addition, the Department of Culture of the City of Molina de Segura instituted in 2009 Recognition of Cultural Outreach Setenil, which is to distinguish those individuals, groups or institutions that, over the years, efforts have played a promote culture in the municipality in all its aspects.
The first edition was placed on the bookshelf Justina Jiménez Salcedo.
In this second edition, the Recognition of Cultural Outreach Setenil 2010 has fallen on the figure of Juan Vicente Davalos, who throughout his life has reconciled a successful business career with an interest in art, in his dual role of gallery and painter.
Juan Vicente Davalos, who could fairly be described as humanist, has been Mayor of Molina de Segura (1964/1967) and in 1979 founded the company with Spanish company Corrugated (which earned him the Award for Family Business Herentia in 2008 and Business Development Award in 2009).
Between the two periods in Molina de Segura opened in 1970 and with Queta Sandoval, Zen Gallery, which then marched emerging authors like Christopher Gabarrón, Manuel Coronado, Angel Hernansáez, Manuel Belz, Joseph Lucas, José and José Dalmau Maria Garrido.
Zen Gallery marked a milestone in the cultural history of Molina de Segura, recently held a retrospective of the same in the Garden Room of the town.
Over recent years, Juan Vicente Davalos has collaborated with the Department of Culture in various artistic projects.
