The VII Setenil 2010 Award for Best Book of short stories published in Spain will be delivered on Thursday 16 December (15/12/2010)

The prize, worth 12,000 euros, went to habits of chance, Francisco López Serrano, published by Renaissance Publishing

The ceremony of the VII Setenil 2010 Award for Best Story Book Published in Spain, organized by the city of Molina de Segura, will take place on Thursday 16 December at 20.00 am in the Plenary Hall of the City Council, with assistance from the Mayor of the town, Eduardo Contreras Linares, the Director General of Books, Archives and Libraries, Francisco Giménez Gracia, VII Prize winner Setenil, Francisco López Serrano, Councillor of Culture, Mariola Martinez Robles, President of the Jury Andrew Neuman, and the gallery owner and painter Juan Vicente Dávalos.

The winner was Francisco López Serrano, who has won the award for his work habits of chance, published by Renaissance Publishing (Seville), among the 82 submitted by publishers in Spain.

Prior to the award ceremony, there will be a literary gathering of students from local secondary schools with Francisco López Serrano, at 12.45 pm in the Centro Las Balsas (Calle Cartagena, near the Plaza of the taps).

Awarded to the attention of the media will take place in the same literary meeting place at 12.15 hours.

In the afternoon, at 19.30 pm in Paseo Rosales (near the junction with Calle Jara Carrillo), proceed to the discovery of a plaque commemorating the winner Setenil ceremony attended by the writer.

The plaque has been placed on a bench in the promenade area and contains a text commemorating the award and an excerpt from the winning work and a drawing by the painter Juan Espallardo.

Setenil Award, organized by the Culture Department of the City of Molina de Segura, is a national contest that rewards range of stories and books published, and whose ultimate goal is to highlight this literary genre in our country.

Is endowed with 12,000 euros.

Francisco López Serrano (Épila, Zaragoza, 1960) has published the novels The land of rain, portrait of the murderer in practice and The Field of Miracles, as well as collections of short stories and Shakespeare's liver is another God.

He is also author of five books of poems, and throughout his career he has obtained, among others, Luis Cernuda's poetry awards and Ignacio Aldecoa stories.

Translator of English poets, works in literary magazines and newspapers such as Clarín, Turia or Heraldo de Aragón.

The winning book, Habits of chance, collects ten short stories of remarkable originality and impeccable that combine lyricism with humor.

On the other hand, in the very act of recognition will be given to the Cultural Outreach Setenil, established last year in order to distinguish those persons, groups or institutions that, over the years have conducted activities to promote culture in the municipality in all its aspects.

In this second edition, the Recognition of Cultural Outreach Setenil 2010 has fallen to Juan Vicente Davalos, who throughout his life has reconciled a successful business career with an interest in art, in his dual role of art dealer and painter.

Juan Vicente Davalos, who could fairly be described as humanist, has been Mayor of Molina de Segura (1964/1967) and in 1979 founded the company with Spanish company Corrugated (which earned him the Award for Family Business Herentia in 2008 and Business Development Award in 2009).

Between the two periods in Molina de Segura opened in 1970 and with Queta Sandoval, Zen Gallery, which then marched emerging authors like Christopher Gabarrón, Manuel Coronado, Angel Hernansáez, Manuel Belz, Joseph Lucas, José and José Dalmau Maria Garrido.

Zen Gallery marked a milestone in the cultural history of Molina de Segura, recently held a retrospective of the same in the Garden Room of the town.

Over recent years, Juan Vicente Davalos has collaborated with the Department of Culture in various artistic projects.
