Conference of popular science on the control of emerging diseases (15/12/2010)

The popular science conference organized by the Medical Research Foundation Molina de Segura on the control of emerging diseases, by Professor José Manuel Sánchez Vizcaíno, will take place on Thursday December 16

The LXI popular science conference organized by the Medical Research Foundation Molina de Segura (FEM) will be held on Thursday 16 December at 20.30 pm in the auditorium of the College of Education Child Paseo Rosales, with free admission , entitled Control of emerging diseases in the twenty-first century, by Professor José Manuel Sánchez-Vizcaíno, Professor of Animal Health at the Universidad Complutense, Director of the Laboratory of Reference of the World Organisation for Animal Health OIE and Doctor Honoris Causa by the University of Murcia.

The conference is organized by the WEF, the city of Molina de Segura and the Hospital de Molina, sponsored by the Caixa.

Born in Murcia in 1951, Professor Sánchez-Vizcaíno degree and doctorate at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Complutense University, then completed postgraduate studies in immunology and animal virology at Cornell University in New York.

On his return to Spain he joined the National Institute of Agricultural and Food Research (INIA), perform the following functions: Researcher (1978/1980), Head of Research Projects (1980/1985), Head of Department of Animal Virology (1985 / 1988), Director of Animal Health (1988/1993) and Director of Research Center for Animal Health (CISA), between 1993 and 2002.

Since 2002 he is Professor of Animal Health at the University Complutense of Madrid, by his teaching and research in the Department of Animal Health, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Director of the Laboratory of Reference of the World Organization for Animal Health ( OIE) for African Swine Fever and African Horse Sickness.

His scientific contributions have contributed significantly in the control and eradication of various animal diseases, including African swine fever, African horse sickness and classical swine fever.

All thanks to the development of new methods and reagents for rapid and sensitive diagnosis, epidemiology and new approaches to the development of new generation vaccines.

Have more than one hundred and fifty scientific publications in international journals of high impact, and has authored several book chapters and courses of international prestige to dedicated digital immunology, infectious diseases and medical simulations.

He has directed a number of national and international research and dissertations on infectious animal diseases.

She won national swine research ANAPORC 1990, the International Prize Pigs BRAVO PORCO 1999 and First Prize of Swine Health and Production (Animal Production 2000) and Animal Health Award 2007 Best of Truth 2007.

Has been awarded the Commendation of Number of Agricultural Merit (03/12/1999) Food and Merit (05/05/2003), with the Cross of Military Merit with white badge (03/01/1903) for his contributions to animal health and infectious disease control, as well as the Medal CESFAC (27/05/09), the merit in food and animal health in the Research and Development category.

It has recently been awarded the Medal of Merit from the World Animal Health (OIE) and international recognition to their outstanding service to veterinary science (5/24/1909) and has been awarded honorary doctorates by the University Murcia (04/22/1910).

Professor Sánchez-Vizcaino has been working since 1990 with the OIE and FAO in several medical missions to control infectious disease and technology transfer in various countries in Europe, America, Asia and Africa, and participated in a large number of commissions national and international scientific.

His current scientific interest is focused on the study of epidemiology and preventive medicine for infectious animal diseases, as well as developing new diagnostic techniques, new generation vaccines and new strategies for its control.
