Public Works contributes to regional conservation of archaeological heritage in Molina de Segura (07/01/2011)

The Ministry of Public Works and Planning, through the Directorate General of Planning and Housing, supports the City of Molina de Segura conditioning works called Mirador del Castillo and recovery of archaeological remains that housed the House of the Maíta '.

The grant, amounting to 473,871 euros, is part of the conditioning of public space in which the regional government supports local government in the development of activities in architecture, "something that, for the City of Molina de Segura, plays an important role in the ongoing commitment to the preservation of archaeological remains of historic and cultural value, "said the general director of Planning and Housing, Antonio Navarro.

"In fact, this action is part of a series of interventions carried out in different areas of the Castle District, the old medieval enclave of Molina de Segura, and which will recover the heritage and historical values of the same" said the director general, who also "is a performance of great interest to aim at a full recovery of the area."

In addition, the Cultural Property now has an old medieval city wall in sight and a stretch of 12 meters by 4.5 meters high, which are adjacent tower 'Tribute' and a silo cylinder partially covered by a dome of brick, after the relevant excavations have been the subject of consolidation and restoration.

Thus, besides the recovery of archaeological remains, environmental rehabilitation of the Fort for use as public space will give this iconic area, located at the top of Castle Hill, new tourist and cultural resources the municipality.

Finally, recovery of the remains of the ancient castle has also led the adequacy of the adjoining land, called "Mirador del Castillo 'and the elimination of architectural barriers and uneven.

Works have also been undertaken to improve the access to the Mirador from the Plaza de San Vicente Ferrer and from the street Mella, based on ramps and steps that save the existing slope retaining walls lined with steel, ensuring accessibility for all citizens.
