The City of Molina de Segura launches the Green Homes Program (21/02/2013)

Green Homes Program, sponsored by the Department of the Environment and Urban Environment of the City of Molina de Segura, sponsored by Leroy Merlin, and the collaboration of Public Water Utility of the Region of Murcia (EPA) and Sercomosa, has been presented at a press conference on Thursday February 21 at the Press Room of City Hall.

Councillor attended the Natural Environment and Urban Environment, Juana Carrillo Muñoz, Director Leroy Merlin Store Murcia, Soledad Bautista Romo de Arce, the Head of Inspection and Communication EPA, Azcona Ignacio Lopez and Production Manager Sercomosa, Pedro Manuel García Martínez.

Green Homes is an initiative that came from the Department of Agriculture, Food and Environment, through the National Environmental Education Center (CENEAM), in collaboration with the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP), to which the city of Molina Segura has adhered to its development in this county.

This is an educational program for families concerned about the environmental and social impact of their decisions and daily habits.

This initiative wishes accompany them in the process of change towards a more responsible management of your home, by:

Promotion of self-control in domestic consumption of water and energy.

Introduction of measures and behaviors savers and efficiency.

Help to make a purchase more ethical and environmentally friendly and to reduce and manage waste properly.

Contribution to the collective challenge of achieving a healthier environment for the city and the planet by reducing CO2 emissions.

The program is through the participation of families, they face a number of environmental challenges or goals to be achieved jointly in participating households (saving water and energy, waste reduction, etc..) These challenges are set from conducting initial environmental audit of each household (through known consumption of water, electricity, gas, etc.).

Throughout the process, advises and provides technical support in various forms to families so they can achieve the goals that arise.

Finally, we again performed an audit to evaluate the process and see if you really have been reductions in consumption and incorporated consumer habits and proper waste management.

In this first edition may participate with 25 families will work through:

- Briefings and workshops with tips on consumption and saving water, energy, waste production, responsible consumption and mobility.

- Service staff consultation and monitoring to resolve any questions that arise.

- Materials with information and practical recommendations and a kit of household savings.

Participating families are committed to:

- Complete initial and final questionnaires on water, energy, etc.

- Attend briefings and practical sessions.

- Provide data on household consumption of water and energy.

The registration can be made until March 5, in the Department of the Environment and Urban Environment or through the municipal website www.molinadesegura.es.

The Councillor for the Environment and Urban Environment Muñoz Juana Carrillo, Green Homes Program emphasizes that "arises as a collective challenge and motivation of saving money. The program is sponsored by Leroy Merlin, which provides each family a kit, composed preferably of various elements favoring energy savings and water consumption in the home.

The kit consists of a mini dynamo flashlight, a low-energy bulb, a flow restrictor to the shower, faucet aerator and a bag recycled.

It also has the support of Sercomosa and Public Water Utility of the Region of Murcia (EPA), which provides the means to save water and information materials for practical advice.
