The association AFESMO launches Family Care Program 2014 (29/01/2014)

The Association of Families and Persons with Mental Illness in Molina de Segura (AFESMO) has launched the Family Care Program 2014, in support of family members.

The presentation ceremony took place on Tuesday January 28, at the headquarters of AFESMO, and was attended by the Mayor of the town, Eduardo Contreras, Councillor for Social Welfare, Lola Vicente Quiles, the President of AFESMO, Delia Topham Reguera and the Director of the association, Alberta Martínez Vázquez.

The program offers different resources that aim to meet the diverse needs of each family member present, and for that activities are organized every Tuesday at 17.00 hours to 19.00 hours, at the headquarters of the association.

The figure of the family is key both in the evolution of mental illness and creating the vital project of the person and their inclusion in the community.

The development of this important support function generates different families based on needs which the objectives of this program are located.

Among them:

- Provide information to families regarding mental illness.

- Raise awareness among families of persons with mental illness in their role as agents of change and social inclusion.

- Provide family of resources to improve the home environment.

- Promote associations and self-help.

To meet the objectives, the program presented by AFESMO has three types of activities:

Family School

An information providing knowledge about mental illness, and helps advance the path to standardization of the collective of people with mental illness, while pretending to be a gallery of answers to the main questions that may arise and provides tools to improve family relationships everyday.

Self Help and Advocacy Group

Meeting relatives shall promote relations of mutual assistance and exchange of experiences.

In these groups, understanding, strength, encouragement and support as a pillar that can offer the person who has been through a similar experience working.

Raising and social activities together with AFEMO claim will be organized, as well as other emerging from the group itself, such as trips, excursions and cultural outings.

Psychological Counseling and Family Therapy

Instead of listening and support to the family, where information and advice is offered regarding the concerns and needs of the family.

This activity is developed through family therapy groups, but also will emphasize individual counseling.

Through family therapy groups, lasting two hours, arise:

Tools to meet the care and coexistence.

Relapse prevention.

Observation guidelines and modes of action.

Exhibition and solving specific problems in living with the patient.

Emotional support among its members.

Creating healthy habits.

And with respect to the individual psychological guidance aims to:

Give the family resources for coping.

Learn and control the thoughts and attitudes that harm.

Manage emotions, social skills training, etc..

Provide the family of strategies, not only to remove the emotional damage but to learn to face life with healthier attitudes and thus achieve wellness in your life.
