Professor José Antonio Lozano Teruel in Moratalla born in 1939.

He graduated in Chemistry at the University of Murcia with honors in 1962.Tras expand studies in England, obtained a professorship in Tenerife University of La Laguna, but soon return to Murcia where he spent almost all of his teaching career and research.

From 1971 to 2010 he is Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Murcia, a position he continues as Emeritus today.

Together with his teacher, Professor Francisco Sabater, was the initiator in the 60s in Murcia teaching and research in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

As principal investigator created a group for research, melanocytes, to investigate the biochemistry and molecular biology of normal and pathological pigmentation.

He has authored, individually or collaboratively, several academics books and over 200 research papers published in international journals.

His group has received several national and international awards related to these university activities, including international prize in Golden CREI, awarded by a global project of informative educational research university in 1983, first prize in Science Education in 1986 and Millipore Laurel Research Murcia.

Professor Lozano Teruel is one of the Spanish researchers that has helped to bring the art of Biochemistry in a prominent place on the international scene.

He has held a number of university management such as Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, 1974-1975, Vice Chancellor of the University of Murcia, from 1975 to 1980, Rector of the University of Murcia, from 1980 to 1984 and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine between 1990 and 1992.

During his time as Chancellor were launched fourteen new qualifications and specialties, they acquired to Rectorate building Convalescence, and approved the draft Campus Espinardo, being one of the periods of extensive growth of the first academic institution Murcia.

Through daily La Verdad de Murcia, Professor Lozano Teruel has made sustained efforts in science communication, reflected in nearly a thousand articles.

He was recently awarded the III Francisco Guirado (2013) Award, which distinguishes for its dedication to health sector in the municipality.
