Information Center and Refuge Visitor Las Lagunas de Campotéjar opens on Sunday January 18th (16/01/2015)

The opening of the Center for Information and Visitor Reception Campotéjar Las Lagunas, a facility that houses Information Services and interpretation of environmental values ​​of the wetland Las Lagunas de Campotéjar-Salar Gordo, takes place on Sunday 18 January, driven by the City of Molina de Segura, in collaboration with the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia and the European Commission through the LIFE 09 / NAT / ES / 000516 project for the conservation of the White-headed duck in R. de Murcia.

This natural area managed by the Department of Environment of the City molinense, this year declared a Special Protection Area for Birds (SPA) and classified as Ramsar Site (Wetland of International Importance) in 2011, presents an important natural heritage and highlight ecological values, including the presence of migratory waterfowl with the status of regional, national and global protection, such as white-headed duck (Oxyura leucocephala), an endangered bird species worldwide.

The opening Campotéjar Visitor Center is part of the project contracted by the City of Molina de Segura called Awareness Programme and Information for Social Participation of the population of Molina de Segura in the conservation of the white-headed duck, amounting to 21,440 euros, and funded 75% by the financial support of the Autonomous Community and the European Union, with the approval of LIFE 09 / NAT / ES / 000516 project.

This program includes other awareness and environmental information, the presentation of LIFE + project for the conservation of the white-headed duck, briefings on the lakes and their ecological values, guided tours and interpretive tours around the lakes, following the green line, processing a guide waterfowl present in Campotéjar and a video of their natural values, establishment of an information on the public highway and the craft market of Molina de Segura and dissemination activities in several shops in the town, among others.

The center opening hours are 10.00 to 14.00 h., And Sunday 18 there will be a workshop Banding small land birds, for all those who visit Las Lagunas de Campotéjar.

The main objective of this project, promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Water of the Region of Murcia, is the conservation of the white-headed duck (Oxyura leucocephala) and its habitat in three wetlands in the Region of Murcia: Lagunas de Campotéjar (Molina de Segura), Lagunas de Las mulberry (Mazarrón) and Lagunas de Las Salinas (Alhama de Murcia).

Objectives
