The City of Molina de Segura announces the First International Research Prize historian Luisa Isabel Ãlvarez de Toledo (30/01/2009)

The City Council convenes Molina de Segura, through its Department of Culture, the First International Research Prize historian Luisa Isabel Álvarez de Toledo.

The contest rules have been presented at a press conference on Friday 30 January, by the Mayor of the town, Eduardo Contreras Linares, and the Councillor for Culture, Mariola Martinez Robles.

10,000 euros, its purpose is to promote studies on the history of Spain that have the fundamental base documentary and archival sources.

Directed published books, the award recognizes both the research work as one's own edition of the works.

His character is biennial.

The name of the Prize recognizes Luisa Isabel Álvarez de Toledo y Maura, Duchess of Medina Sidonia xxi, xviii Marquesa de los Vélez, etc., who dedicated his life to the preservation and dissemination of historical and artistic heritage and legacy of archival fonds ancestors.

In his file is preserved historical documents of various noble houses, including that of Vélez.

His wish was always to make those funds available to researchers and historians to ensure that the company relied on his legacy.

This collaborative work and

spread was particularly close with the city of Molina de Segura, with which it established agreements to enable the study and digitization of documents relating to the city preserved in the ducal file.

This has deepened in a decisive way in the knowledge of its history.

The public has become aware of these studies through books such as the Statute of Molina de Segura Concejil or Calf Book House and the State of Vélez, or in exhibitions such as The de Molina in the Duke of Medina Sidonia File.

The jury will be presided over this first edition by Maria Josefa Sanz Fuentes, Professor of Science and Technology Historiography at the University of Oviedo since 1982.

It is also Deputy Director of the Royal Institute of Asturian Studies and Deputy Secretary of the Commission Internationale de Diplomatique (Internal Commission of the International Committee of Historical Sciences of UNESCO).

Author of numerous works, from his position has two main lines of research: History of writing and document in the realms of the Crown of Castile, and the history of pilgrimages.

The other 3 members of the jury are all university professors with great prestige in their respective fields.

BASES

1.

I may be submitted to the International Research Prize historian Luisa Isabel Álvarez de Toledo all those papers that meet the following characteristics:

Have been published in books and individually.

Excluding both journal articles and collections of works from various authors.

Have been published during the biennium 2007/2008.

The research topic must cover any existing Spanish kingdoms in the period of the Middle Ages and the Modern Age (viii to the eighteenth centuries).

2.

The competition has two modes:

The best essay.

It will take into account the scientific rigor, the value of the historical contribution and, in particular, documentary sources, both in the accuracy of their use as diffusion (documentary appendices, transcripts, etc.).

The best editing.

It will consider both the formal beauty of the book as the care of the issue.

The same work can attend to both modalities simultaneously.

3.

The prize money is 5,000 euros for each mode.

In the best essay will be awarded to the author, while the other will be the editor who receives the award.

Prizes will be awarded.

4.

Must be submitted two copies of each work submitted before April 1, 2009 to the Department of Culture of the City of Molina de Segura (Building The Catch. 3rd Floor. Calle Mayor, 81. 30 500 Molina de Segura), indicating on the envelope "I International Research Prize historian Luisa Isabel Álvarez de Toledo."

5.

The jury will be composed of renowned historians, among whom will be an expert in medieval history, one in modern history and one in the area of science knowledge and techniques of historiography.

The jury will decide any matter not listed in these rules.

6.

The contest will fail in June 2009.

The award will be presented at a public event to be held in Molina de Segura in October, with the assistance of the winner or winners, and members of the jury.

7.

The mere act of participating in this competition implies acceptance of these rules and the verdict of the jury, which will be final.
