Health invests 1.9 million euros in the new Mental Health Center of Molina (23/02/2009)

The Minister of Health, María Ángeles Palacios, accompanied by the Mayor of Molina de Segura, Eduardo Contreras, today inaugurated the new Mental Health Center of Molina de Segura, which will provide specialized assistance to over 110,000 people in the area of health Vega del Segura and the Ministry and the Health Service of Murcia have invested 1.9 million euros.

The new Mental Health Center consists of two units, Center for Mental Health and Rehabilitation Unit, Day Hospital, distinct and independent, but coordinated with each other, which will be attended by a skilled multidisciplinary team to address the various health care programs.

Palacios said that the new center "will begin programs Drug Addiction, Rehabilitation and Day Hospital and the Home Care which lacked the health area, as well as enhance current treatment programs for adults, children and youth with better facilities and more professional.

The building has been built on a plot donated by the municipality of Molina situated in Levante Avenue, which is annexed to the Health Center Dr. Antonio García.

It has a floor area of 1,450 square feet on two floors plus a basement of 650 square meters.

On the ground floor lies the Mental Health Center and the Opiate Treatment Unit which has a reception area and administration, 14 queries, two waiting rooms, consultation opioid administration, control of toxic and two rooms a treatment group and other meetings.

The first floor is assigned to the Rehabilitation Unit and Day Hospital, for it has four visits, group therapy room, four multipurpose therapy rooms, a waiting area and a dining room, plus a reception area.

While the basement houses the park as well as own units.

Assistance programs

Mental Health Network of the Region of Murcia has many assistance programs, and in this Mental Health Center Molina, work together to care programs, Adults, Children and Youth, Drug Addiction, Rehabilitation and Day Hospital

The Adult Care is organized and operates in relation to the Mental Health of the population over 16 years, residing in the area of health in the Vega del Segura, and meets the needs of prevention, early diagnosis, counseling and treatment psychological and psychiatric problems and rehabilitation work.

Children and Youth program is aimed at people under 15 years and, as in the adult program is focused on prevention, early diagnosis, counseling and treatment of psychological and psychiatric problems of this population.

The Addictions Program is specific to serve the population with substance abuse and dependence on alcohol and illegal drugs.

In addition, the Rehabilitation and Reintegration program is an essential part of the assistive devices, primarily aims to achieve the highest possible level of recovery, normalization of behavioral and psychosocial integration, avoiding the marginalization that involves loss of mental health.

The new Rehabilitation Unit for psychiatric patients, aged between 16 and 60, will attend about 30 patients with severe mental illness, this will make an individualized rehabilitation plan with the inclusion of patients in different programs Rehabilitation services that are intended to provide or enhance the physical, emotional, intellectual and social aspects of mental illness so they can live, learn and work in the community with minimal support from professionals, which means avoiding marginalization loss of mental health.

This assistance is provided on an outpatient basis with hours from 8:00 to 18:00.

Psychiatric Day Hospital has capacity for about 20 patients with therapeutic activities to be carried out basic and supplementary framed in an Individualized Plan.

The hospital is an outpatient service with flexible hours between 8:00 and 18:00, which provides a more intensive and structured than the normal outpatient for part of the day.

It also includes a less restrictive than hospitalization, indeed is designed to prevent that bridge the gap between it and the community, while increasing the level of functioning of seriously mentally ill and is a tool for secondary prevention.

Additionally, in conjunction with this program is to implement the 'assertive community treatment' with the home care program, in which a team of professionals (psychiatrist, nurses, social workers) will go to patients' homes to normalize the active psychiatric symptoms, optimize treatment compliance, and achieve therapeutic goals.

Mental health in the Region

During his visit to the Mental Health Center of Molina, the head of Health noted that "in our community is getting the full integration of policies in relation to mental health in general health system and the total equation of mental illness" .

Attention to mental health problems is carried out at the community level, leveraging the resources outpatient and partial hospitalization to reduce as much as possible the need for hospitalization, is empowering and gives special attention to issues relating to child psychiatry and are developing rehabilitation and social reintegration necessary for adequate comprehensive care of the problems of the mentally ill.

Last year they used these resources, about, more than 42,000 Murcia, and generated more than 300,000 scheduled visits.

Currently the Ministry is building three other mental health centers in Cieza, Lorca and Yecla in which to invest a total of 6 million euros.
