The modernization of irrigation in the Acequia Mayor of Molina de Segura is being implemented in collaboration between the Ministry of Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs (MARM) and the Government of the Region of Murcia, with a total investment of 17.3 million EUR
The recovery of the banks of the river Segura, between the weir of eyes and the Contraparada, represents an investment of 7 billion euros.
Three of the sections, Alguazas, Ceuta and Lorqui already completed.
The general director of Water, Ministry of Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs (MARM), Marta Morén, today visited the modernization of irrigation works of the Acequia Mayor de Molina, as well as environmental recovery in the river Segura, between the weir of eyes and the Contraparada.
The Director General of Water has been accompanied by the Delegate of the Government in Murcia, Rafael González Tovar, president of the Hydrographic Confederation of Segura, José Fuentes Zorita, and the director general of the State Society Mediterranean Basin Water SA (Acuamed) Carlos Massa.
Also present at the ceremony the mayors of the towns of Las Torres de Cotillas, Lorquí and Molina de Segura.
The works are integrated into the action "Modernization of the irrigation infrastructure of Vega Alta", particularly in the Segura river reach between the Dam of eyes and the Contraparada.
The implementation of this core infrastructure, along with the works already carried out by SEIASA and individual irrigators, will modernize the irrigable area for the Community Irrigation Irrigation for inheriting the Acequia Mayor de Molina, reaching an area of 1,884 hectares and will benefit nearly 4,000 community members from the municipalities in Molina de Segura and Lorquí.
These works, main infrastructure, involving a total investment of 17.3 million euros, 15.8 million of which are executed by the Ministry of Environment and Rural and Marine through Acuamed, while 1.5 million is the party is carrying out the Murcia regional government through the Directorate General of Irrigation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water.
The work that has visited today the General Director of Water started in December 2008.
The project aims to make possible the introduction of modern irrigation techniques, to promote the efficient use of water.
In this sense, we establish a system of automatic and remote control for use of facilities.
The work can increase efficiency, eliminate losses and that the same type of crop uses less water, thereby increasing security of supply.
This irrigation system will also facilitate a more equitable distribution of water and is designed based on optimization criteria in the use of energy, since the pumps will focus on hours of electricity rates more favorable.
Also increase the capacity to regulate not only reduce energy costs, but due to the limitations in supply from the river Segura.
The works, which are being implemented, include the appropriateness of making the river Segura, in the hamlet of La Algaida, the introduction of a chest of control (developed in the "Proceedings of Comprehensive Land Use Control (SICA) in Las Vegas del Segura. Sector Vega Alta. Acequia Mayor de Molina "), the piping of the Acequia Mayor and Subirana, the execution of three pumping stations and the building of five rafts of regulation.
Furthermore, additional works will be made for maintenance, rehabilitation and improvement of the environment.
ENVIRONMENTAL RECOVERY
Marta Moreno also visited various sections of the environmental rehabilitation works of the river Segura, between the weir of eyes and the Contraparada.
The action, taken together, represent a total investment, including expropriations and assist-to about 7 million euros and takes place in the municipalities of Alguazas, Ceuta, Lorqui Cotillas Towers, Molina de Segura and eyes.
The first three sections, corresponding to Alguazas, Ceuta and Lorqui already completed.
The sections of Molina de Segura and Las Torres de Cotillas are still under construction.
In both cases, there have been at certain times, periods of slowdown of work, in order not to interfere in the process of nesting birds settled there.
Finally, we will launch a sixth phase in the municipality of Ojós, on which the project is currently being drafted.
These actions are aimed at creating a fundamental ecological and cultural corridor to recover the natural functioning of river without altering its dynamics and integrated into the municipalities that are part of the Vega Media Murcia.
The aim is to put the channel and provide the connection to other elements of the natural values, cultural and social development there.
The environmental recovery is achieved by increasing plant diversity, the provision of areas for expansion of leisure and rehabilitation of infrastructure as part of the history and life of these populations, such as wells Campoo Lo and Lorquí.
