Coinciding with the celebration of World No Snuff, the city of Molina de Segura carry out the signing of a cooperation agreement with the local board of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) and health centers Dr. Antonio García García and Professor Jesús Marín López for promoting a reduction of smoking in the town, on Monday 1 June, at 20.00 pm in the auditorium of the College of Education Child Paseo Rosales.
Attended by Mayor of Molina de Segura, Eduardo Contreras Linares, President of the local board of the AECC, Juan Antonio Abellán Sanchez, Coordinator of the Health Center Professor Jesús Marín López, Juan Francisco Menéndez Puche, and the Coordinator of the Health Center Dr. Antonio García García, Emilio Pérez Macanás.
As witnesses, also attended by the Councillor for Health, Lola Vicente Quiles, the Primary Care Manager Health Service of Murcia, Fátima Núñez, and the regional President of the Spanish Association Against Cancer, Agustin Navarrete.
This partnership is an initiative of the Community Health Committee, which consists of various professionals in health centers, City Council and citizen representatives, worked for a year with the aim of improving health promotion in the municipality .
According to the latest National Health Survey (2006) in the population health area to which it belongs Molina de Segura, 29.4 percent of the population over 16 smoke daily, reaching 34 percent in people between 16 and 44, can be estimated that the number of smokers in Molina de Segura is close to 15,000.
Following this agreement, professionals health centers referrals for patients deemed appropriate, and to support the establishment of treatment from consultation to implementation of smoking cessation courses taught by a psychologist of the Spanish Association Against Cancer dependencies to be held in the City of Molina de Segura.
Also, the Department of Health will develop various information campaigns among the population to encourage the reduction of smoking in the municipality, in the design and development involved doctors and nurses from health centers.
The Mayor of Molina de Segura, Eduardo Contreras, expressed his satisfaction for "pioneer have reached this agreement in the Region of Murcia, where all parties involved, management and citizens, are sitting on the table and have joined forces to try answering one of the biggest health problems of our society, such as smoking.
