The Second Congress Barcelona 2010 FESNAD invites the town of Molina to tell the experience of its program to prevent child and adolescent obesity (21/10/2009)

The Spanish Federation of Nutrition, Food and Dietetics (FESNAD) has invited the town of Molina de Segura to participate in its second congress, held from 3 to 5 March 2010 at the Palau de Congresos de Barcelona, that has its unique experience with the Obesity Prevention Program for Children and Youth of the municipality, as reported by the Councillor of the City Health molinense, Lola Vicente Quiles.

The FESNAD brings together the top 10 Spanish associations of nutrition and every 5 years held its national congress.

The main contribution of the experience of Molina de Segura has been sitting at one table to the primary care professionals of the health centers, the city of Molina de Segura, the Directorate General of Public Health and the Directorate General of Department of Ministry of Education to design a plan together interventionist actions.

The plan has undergone a first phase, which has offered to high schools with the opportunity to join this program for the prevention of child and adolescent obesity and to design a healthy menu based on the Mediterranean diet, which encourages daily intake of vegetables and fruit as well as traditional dishes of vegetables, pasta, rice and fish.

The program has achieved in just three years, the attention of various professionals and administrations across the country.

Currently 21 of the 22 schools with high daily serving these menus designed by the working group and consist primarily of salads, traditional dish (one dish), bread and fruit.

The participation of the municipality in FESNAD Congress will be held on Friday March 5, 2010, under the title

Molina de Segura, Juan Francisco Menéndez Puche, who will come accompanied by several health professionals, taking advantage of the invitation, presented three scientific papers on various aspects of the Obesity Prevention Program of the municipality.

The experience has meant that 100% of the approximately 4,000 children who come daily to the town a school canteen eat fruit and vegetables daily, without there being no case of resistance to three months of starting the program.

Furthermore, these children have recovered the use of traditional dishes, by the complexity of processing and the characteristics of today's society it is very difficult household consumption.

Health Councillor wants to "congratulate all health and educational professionals who are participating in this program about the impact it is having inside and outside our region, and have placed the name of Molina de Segura, again as one of national references in the prevention of child and adolescent obesity. "
