Fernando Clement, with the work of the Chiado Tobacconists wins the VI Setenil Award for Best Book of short stories published in Spain 2009 (05/11/2009)

The award is endowed with 12,000 euros and will be presented on December 10

The Jury Prize Setenil VI Best Story Book Published in Spain 2009, meeting on 3 November, has agreed to grant the award to Fernando Clement for his book Tobacconists of Chiado, published by Southern Parallel Editions (Barcelona).

The jury, composed by Javier Tomeo, José María Pozuelo Yvancos, José Belmonte Serrano and Manuel Moyano, chose this site among the 74 submitted by publishers in Spain.

Setenil Award, organized by the Culture Department of the City of Molina de Segura, has a budget of 12,000 euros for the winner, and also includes placing advertisements in the press as well as a reprint edition with one or more accounts of winner.

The award-winning writer, Fernando Clement (Barcelona, 1970), is also a philologist and editor, and throughout his career has won numerous literary awards in the short story, such as the City of San Sebastian Kutxa, the Barcarolle, the City Hellin or the Villa de Benasque.

As a novelist, has just published The Gulf of Poets, which was a finalist in the awards University of Seville and the city of Logroño in 2008.

Works in literary magazines such as Chimera, Barcarolle and Literatures.

The winning book, Tobacconists of Chiado, collecting a total of twelve stories, each of which has been listed individually in a literary contest.

Clement boasts an elegant and precise writing a book cosmopolitan air, as noted by Care Santos, "oozes nostalgia," and that, in the words of his prologue Jordi Gol, "is not exhausted in a single reading."

It is expected that the ceremony of the Award Setenil VI takes place December 10, 2009, in the Plenary Hall of the Ayuntamiento de Molina de Segura, with the assistance of prize-winning author of jurors and from different authorities.

Winners of previous editions of Setenil, an award and fully implemented in the national literary scene, have been Alberto Mendez, for The Blind Sunflowers, Juan Pedro Aparicio, and white life, Cristina Fernandez Cubas, Kinship poor devil Sergi Pamies, if you eat a lemon without making faces, and Oscar Esquivias at The Mark of Crete.

On the other hand, the Department of Culture has instituted this year the Recognition of Cultural Outreach Setenil, which aims to distinguish those persons, groups or institutions that, over the years have conducted activities to promote culture in the municipality in all its aspects.

In this first edition, the Recognition of Cultural Outreach Setenil 2009 has gone to the bookstore Justina Jiménez Salcedo.

Born in Caravaca de la Cruz in 1951, Justina Jimenez, who said that "books help people grow, live in Molina de Segura from twelve years.

In the late sixties, was part of the group that founded the Library Demos (Greek for "people"), which, despite economic difficulties, became a meeting point for citizens, where they discussed and recommended readings.

Since the late eighties, Justina Jiménez went to bear alone the management of the library, forced cultural landmark in Molina de Segura.
