The Ministry of Social Policy, Women and Immigration will provide 300,000 euros this year and the Association of Families and Persons with Mental Illness of Molina de Segura (Afesmo) 100,000 to finance the construction and equipping of a Day Centre in the town to meet people with mental illness, according to the agreement signed today by the regional head of the department, Joaquín Bascuñana, and the president of the Association of Afesmo, Delia Topham.
The center, whose first stone was laid on 14 October, is being built across the street Pablo Neruda on land donated by the city of Molina de Segura.
The constructed area of 2,283 square meters and the lead time is 18 months.
These new facilities, along with current Occupational Center, will cost 1,436,573 euros and will allow day care of a hundred people, aged between 18 and 64 years with chronic mental illness, and will also include respite care program.
Among the services to be provided include individual therapy, cognitive stimulation, sports and entertainment, dining and transportation.
The center is staffed by 17 professionals, including three psychologists, three social workers, a social educator and manager of the workshop.
Afesmo now has a center for disabled people, within which are located Occupational Center and Day Care Center, with 80 and 85 users respectively.
It also has four of houses, three of them to Spanish, with seven, eight and 14 seats respectively, and one mixed, with six places for immigrants and four Spanish.
The Association also offers respite care service, with 18 licensed beds, Family Support Service, with 80, and Voluntary Service, with another 80.
The Community, through the agreement signed between the Ministry and the Federation of Associations of Families and People (FEAF), 420 places in subsidized day care center for these people.
